Yep, a big mess. I have everything screwed up (all tags, album art, info, duplicated music, even duplicated with wrong info each time, etc.).

Since my library is quite big, I spend two whole nights (I should be paying for this) "correcting" tags. I found three interesting things that I have not yet read in any other forum or post. I want to share with you, experts, so it may help (hopefully) to develop a proper patch:

1. Seems to me that is some very hidden metadata in every song, and therefore, no matter how many times you review your songs it will appear wrong in the Zune software/device. You see, sometimes I rip a compilation cd but since I love art work and organization by artist, I usually take every song apart, search for the correct album title of each artist and the album art. I.e. I have the "Notting Hill" soundtrack, but I have not keep in my library as such, but every song is under the correct artist (Mono, Fisher, etc.). The Zune software has crashed ALL this kind of work I have done. Casually, you find all those tracks badly tagged and under a common -but wrong- pattern, i.e. all of them share same album art, name of song, etc.

2. I have a lot of custom cds (from music I have downloaded throughout the years) and when I ripped (using wma) to my computer I did as above (dismiss the compilation in pro of organizing by artist). This has been also a major problem.

3. Another interesting thing is that all the songs that I had included in playlists were also messed up in a certain point (sometimes it was the album art, or artist name, etc.). I corrected a lot manually because no matter how many times I tried to sync with the wma I could not bring to Zune software my updated playlists. This is another annoying issue. Why I cannot import my playlists?

I am beyond angriness and sadness. I am intrigued why in the world Microsoft, the leader in software is incapable of deliver a good upgrade, is it really so hard to develop a "mirror" of the wma? I mean is also a Microsoft product, it is not like having itunes... I would not mind to have my Zune working with my Media Player if that means to have my library accurate and updated. Seems that Zune team is working against Microsoft, or seeking to "look" so avant-garde with all the "new features" that do not care about what it actually matters: At the end, the Zune device is an mp3 device: To listen music first. What is the point if your library is a mess?

I hope that my 3 findings help anyone. The patch issued recently by Microsoft does not work on the songs that I separated from a previous compilation. Neither the helpful solutions that some users have shared. I think that all that works for the people that did not have any previous playlists or that all its collection comes from cds or downloads and was saved as such, not "re-tagged".

This suggest to me that it has to be some hidden metadata in the files, otherwise I cannot explain why, in the midst of this mess, the songs of a compilation, that was dismissed, are together again, wrongfully, but together, sharing the mistakes. Perhaps if Microsoft works with said Metadata may find a solution.

Thank you.

re: Zune Update Now Live

uh does anyone know how to fix my screwed up library? it's all because of that stupid new software. peice of crap man.

re: Zune Update Now Live

Hey, I've been so torn about getting the new 80G to replace my zen xtra. My biggest concern is I have hundreds (literally) of self-made various artists cds in my computer that I want to sync. I fell in love with WMP 11's ability not only to add album art, but to separate tracks on a CD and create separate tags for them (i.e. say I burned a 20 song CD from ITunes, then ripped onto WMP 11, I can make each song it's own "album" with art, tag, etc.) first off will Zune Player recognize this? and even if not will it erase what i have in WMP11?

I'm too terrified to even get the zune now until i get this answered. I mean, I'm a music collector and have about 200G minimum of music. Help! Please! anybody!

re: Zune Update Now Live

I dunno about anyone else but I can't take the problems with the update that lightly. I was furious to the point where I punched my moniter when I was unable to add the album info for a CD I bought and burned off of Rhapsody, and realized all of my previous album info was screwed as well. Maybe I'm a tad too OCD for my own good but I really despise looking for one of my favorite albums in "Unknown Artist" and then listening to the intended in order tracks completely jumbled, while staring at a pop album cover it downloaded by itself that was COMPLETELY different from the actual album cover. Once again MS as proved it is incompetent when it comes to user-machine interface. If there's any way to go back to my old, "ugly" version, could someone tell me?

re: Zune Update Now Live

I've never had the old software because I just got my Zune about a week ago, but I'm SO glad I'm not the only one who thinks the software sucks. It took 4 tries to get it to install correctly, by the time I got it installed I was almost ready to return the Zune already.

Podcasts take HOURS to sync and sometimes just freeze up and won't finish at all.

My music is scrambled, completely, I went through and spent two days changing All the tags in another program, and STILL can't get them to display correctly.

I've also got duplicates all over the place. albums with various artists all show up singly so I have 12-20 copies of the SAME album with one song in each.

Also having problems with the software in general being slow and clunky, it takes forever to get anything done and seems to shut down a lot, sometimes you get the error message that it needs to close, other times nothing, it's just gone.

I've also been having warnings every time I restart my computer since I installed it that the computer has recovered from a serious error. Luckily, I'm due for a reformat anyway but it would be nice to know that after all that I won't have to go back to this crap software that caused all these problems in the first place.

I may just NOT add or update anything to the Zune after the reformat until you get a fix out to be on the safe side but that's REALLY going to suck.

I also lost my photo collection, a HUGE blow since I'm a photographer. everything from about three months back.

My Bf tried to surprise me by preloading it and put all my photos on it, I went back and wanted to clear them so I could pick what ones I wanted on it cause face it, when you take thousands of photos a month you don't want EVERY one.I Deleted from within Zune software and being new to it didn't realize that it deleted it from the computer too, tried every recovery program known to man, and have nothing, they are GONE.

However try to delete something off the ZUNE itself from within Zune software and nothing, it shows zero music but when I look at the Zune itself, The music I JUST deleted is still there. wtf?

I know you lost a few sales over this crap, most of the people who thought it was SO cool when I got mine are since thanking their stars that they didn't buy it.

re: Zune Update Now Live

everytime i go to open my zune software after i install it it says "cannot connect to zune software make sure no other instances of zune software are running then try again" i disconnected my zune and nothing else was running and i keep getting the same message
