What have we been watching and listening to this week? So glad you asked!
Marques Lyons, Zune MVP: Hands down, the winner of the week was Joss Stone. Her newest album, ‘LP1‘, from top to bottom was a fantastic
listening experience. I had noted somewhere that it was like being at a concert under the stars, because the tracks were placed in a perfect order. I also have to give props to [ Cell 7 ] for their electronic track “Red“. That song is definitely a dance floor piece with that same kind of energy that Pendulum’s song “Comprachicos” has. On the video and podcast front, I found this really cool podcast from the Current TV network, called ‘Vanguard‘ and another cool podcast, ‘Fast Lane Daily‘ which deals with cars. Didn’t think I would be as interested in cars, but this podcast is certainly cool to watch.
Sarah Kay Hoffman, Zune Social Media: This has been an extremely busy week for me. But the one thing I made all the time in the world for (post-Tuesday) was the arrival of Eric Church’s new album, ‘Chief.’ He is a country rocker who is yet to put out a bad song. He is my favorite country artist, so each time I hear a new song of his, I pray he doesn’t disappoint. ‘Chief’ was anything but a disappointment. I can’t get enough of the album. My favorite songs on the album so far include: “Like Jesus Does” and “Drink in My Hand.” I would love to rattle off the whole album as favorites because the truth is that the album proved just that! My weekend mission is to learn every song, and then of course wait patiently until the next album comes out!
Josh Groth, Zune Social Media: This week, I’ve been giving two artists some serious rotations. The first one, is Theophilus London. His new album, ‘Timez are Weird These Days‘, just dropped. It has this awesome retro/groove vibe with a healthy dash of hip-hop and electronica. Mix in some amazing lyrics, and a single like “Last Name London”, and you’ll be wearing this album out.
The second album that I’ve had on repeat is Washed Out’s newest album – ‘Within and Without‘. It’s best described as chillwave, which is loosely dubstep meets trace. And just as the genre suggests, it is super laid back. It reminds me a lot of Neon Indian or Toro y Moi. If you are looking for the ultimate chill-out album, this is it. It’s also nice to see Washed Out getting some major recognition, I think I saw it included in either last month’s Esquire or GQ. Highly underrated band that deserves to get more airplay.
Vicki Dolenga, Zune Social Media: This week I’ve been listening to the main acts of the LA Rising Festival, which is today – can’t wait! I’ve seen both Rise Against and Muse before (an aside – I’ve seen a LOT of concerts, and Muse is still in my top 10 EVER), but I’ve never seen Rage Against the Machine, so I’m really excited! In terms of watching, the great series ‘Rizzoli & Isles‘ is back – I’ve been watching it since it began as it’s based on the books of an author I really enjoy, Tess Gerritsen, plus I think both Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander are fantastic actors. If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a try!
