The Zune service (Zune Pass, Zune Marketplace, Zune.net streaming and Zune video on Xbox LIVE) will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. The Zune service will be offline for up to 24 hours starting at 10:00 p.m. PST on Monday, January 25.

As with previous service updates, we recommend you download any new music, video rentals or purchases and sync Zune Pass content prior to the downtime. Content that is stored on your PC or Xbox 360 HDD will remain available during the downtime.

Once the Zune service is restored, you will be prompted to update the Zune PC software. Additionally, older Zune device firmware (4, 8, 16, 30, 80, 120 GB) will need to be updated to allow continued connection to the Zune service. Zune HD owners will not have to update the device firmware.

Monday’s update is focused on maintenance of the Zune service. Smart DJ on HD and AVI/XVID video are coming later this Spring.

Thanks for your patience!

This post was mentioned on Twitter by majornelson: Zune service downtime - Monday, Jan 25 ast 10 p.m. PST (this will not affect Xbox LIVE gaming...just Zune on Xbox) http://bit.ly/6my7S6

Is there a reason why when ever there is scheduled maintenance it's on a Tuesday?  When all the new music comes out?  Couldn't just plan on later in the week?

thats cool, wont affect me, i'm in canada and you don't like canadians.....  we can't even see the zune marketplace, not even podcasts.

but thanks for xvid support. now i can just download my tv shows for free instead of using the marketplace.

What about the Facebook app that every one seems to have forgotten about, would that be come out once the marketplace is back up

Thanks for the reminder. Starting to download now.

Any chance this might sort out the "infinite time" bug soo many user have struggled with. That would be nice.

@Stephen Microsoft always releases new things and updates on Tuesdays its just what they do.

Talk to the Canadian government and the local companies in Canada with media restrictions on content distribution.  Couple that with marketsize and it gets you what you have... no Netflix, no Zune Marketplace, no Zune HD... pathetic.

Why does MSFT always do Zune updates on Tuesday?  It's frustrating when that is the day most new music drops but us Zune customers can't access it.

Hmm, seems it has been 24 hours yet the service is still offline?

At 10:19 am when u posted it has only been 12 hours not 24

hmmm..just tried to sign in and it made me update to zune 4.2... :)

Anyone know what this update is supposed to do? I don't see anything new, but at least it didn't brick my 30:)

facebook pl0x

Can this software finally be isntalled on a WHS?
