Unlike the vast majority of my co-workers here at Zune, I don't play an instrument. I'm not fronting any band, and the closest I come to performing is playing Rock Band or Lips on my Xbox.

However, I've got a musical kid - and his taste varies from mine pretty dramatically. "Mom, do we have to listen to dance music?" is a frequent whine heard in my car.

So last week, the boy gave me a list of what he'd like me to download for him. Check it out - pretty much I think it's the funniest thing ever. I almost said I wouldn't download anything he didn't spell correctly, but then I decided that would be too cruel.

By the way, he's eight years old. And how does he use his white Zune 30? He's got big Skull Candy headphones and he puts on AC/DC or Black Sabbath and plays along with the music on his drum kit and guitar (um, not at the same time).

And of course, he drowns out my music (and voice) in the car.

Things to note in the picture: "Nervana." "Hendrex." "Zeplen." And, among other spelling errors, the extraneous apostrophe in "Gun's and Roses" (not to mention it's not "and," it's "'n"). But check out the awesome AC/DC, complete with lightning bolt. Too bad I had to buy CDs to get him that content, as it's not available digitally today

I'm a Canadian that would love Zune Pass too!  Can you help?

That is very cute...thanks for sharing your story.  Yes I love my zune pass also.

Haha, this is all-around adorable. I'm kind of surprised to see the Flo-Bots there though. Maybe that's just me.

I love the spelling, lol "Iren Madain". At least he has some pretty decent music tastes for an 8 year old.

Sounds like a switched on kid to me :o)

So is "Romnes" supposed to be the Ramones? <g> Spelling challenged, but interesting taste in counterpoint to your own, Jessica.

Holy crap! It's obvious, you and your wife stole my biological son!  If not for spell check that's what my spelling looks like.  ;-P

Actually he has much better taste in music than my friends kids or my lil' cousin.  Seriously it's devoid of the pop junk from today.  Not sure where he got his tastes from but I'm afraid what I shall be inflicted with when I have kids and their music.

@Marques - Yeah, I haven't really said no to anything yet...but his choices have definitely prompted some conversations I wasn't ready to have yet. Oh well.

@Stephen Boots - Yes, that's The Ramones. Or, it should be.

Anybody know the band "Taking Heads"? :-)

@LoneRangerGOP - me and my wife? My husband would be probably be hurt by that title. :-)

And he got his taste from, honestly, Rock Band - and now he goes to the Seattle School of Rock Music, so he picks stuff up there.

Haha I just can't get the picture of an eight year-old jamming out to Sabbath out of my head. Isn't the Rock Band drum kit way too big for him?

Jessica, this was awesome! Nice post. Your son has a cool mom.

@Adam K - Nope - and you should see his real drum kit. For Christmas he asked for a double bass drum pedal and another cymbal stand. It's totally crazy. And now he's saving all his pennies for a bass guitar.

@LoneRangerGOP - me and my wife? My husband would be probably be hurt by that title. :-)

Shoot, for some reason I didn't check the person writing and assumed the writer was a man.  Why?  Probably since it would be a guy thing to go "Nope, sorry junior.  I only buy people who can spell their MP3s.  But go and cclean out the rain gutters and maybe we can come to a solution."  Hey, that's what happens with my friends.

No kids here.  And my cat thankfully is deaf so no complaints from her about my country music plays.  :-D

Seems the kid is destined to be ON the Zune Marketplace some day. Nice little post Jessica.

Whens the next podcast?

JZ - Funny my kids playlists look very similar...however they have some local Boston Bands,Flo Rida, LL Cool J. and Beastie Boys songs mixed in there. Gotta love the fact that my 6-year loves 'No Sleep til Brooklyn' and 'Lazy Eye' on GH and does the singing and drums at the same time, but complains its not like a "real drum" kit.

Love the "taking heads". He may have gotten Def Leppard spelled correctly... :)

If doesn't like you rocking to Womanizer by Britney, have him check out the All American Rejects version.

So cute!  I got my 10 yo nephew a zune for christmas and after looking at the stock music that comes preloaded, his eyes popped out of his head when he saw "Bear Naked Ladies"...I assured him it was just a band (of men!) and he didn't get any special pictures.  The next day he asked my cousin if she had ever heard of the "buck naked ladies"....

jessica, your son should have a channel on the marketplace I would subscribe to it :)

I believe "Taking Heads" is supposed to be "Talking Heads," an 80s pop band. Rock On!

@Cosmicraverboy

Given that Cesar is no longer with the Zune Team to host the podcast, I would venture that it's put on hiatus til they figure out what to do with it.

This kid is amazing. Flobots, Sabbath, Nirvana, Ramones, Hendrix? Hell yeah!

Cool kid.  Up the Irons 8 year old.

Thank god for the Zune and Zune Pass. I will probably never use anything else and support this device 100%. I've been interested in it since I first heard about it with the the cartoon webpage.

amazing! and he has great taste for music: "Nervana" was his first choice!

I love your post, and I'm sharing it on FB right now.

Cheers,

Your post make me wanna check out more posts on the ZuneInsider.  THX!

This 8-year-old kid has a sophisticated taste in music. Glad it's not rap.
