I know some of you have been seeing stale play count data as of late…To make a long story short, as we started to collect more data for the "Picks" and "Channels" features we launched in 3.0, traffic was happily heavier than expected, however we’re experiencing a slight issue with the database machines. This resulted in the play count getting stuck.  We just wanted everyone to know there's a team of people working around the clock to resolve the issues as soon as possible.  

A super important note: We don't expect anyone to lose play data and your play count will update once when we’re back online. In the meantime, we really appreciate both your patience and your keen interest in play counts.

Thanks for the update!  I've noticed my counts a day or so behind.  I was also wondering, is the time of a recent play tied to when you sync, or the actual time on the Zune?  

And when can we favorite Artists as well as songs?!?!

Riz: the time-of-day and order of your plays come from when the device was synced, not when/in what order you played them.

My play count still works its just a lot slower than before the update.

Thanks for the update. i never knew i had over 17,000 plays! This really helped with the picks feature!

I'm also noticing that syncs take significantly longer than they ever have before. They seem to hang on the very generic "updating device content" step, which must have something to do with friends/channels. I subscribe to and sync 6 friends and 6 channels - I imagine this is what does it. I'm on a quad-core machine that rips through Media Center transcodes, so I really have to wonder how much work is really involved in syncing my Zune with the latest update...

Yay! I've never actually had play data before! But now, I finally have. Maybe I can finally properly "join the social" :)

It was unnerving to not see the play counts update for the past week, and then on sunday jump by 1,000 so I hope you guys are beginning to cope - my playcounts are starting to be updated pretty well now.

Something I've wondered, what exactly marks a song as played? Starting the song? Finishing the song? Making it 50% through?

I don't know if this is the right place to put my question. I install zune 3.0 in xp and vista on my laptop. I don't see the Marketplace on my laptop but I see the Marketplace in my xp. Is anyone know how to fix this issue? I even reinstall it on vista and same story!

@Dusshyi: Make sure your region is set to United States in your regional settings in the Windows Control Panel

What about a fix for channels? So far they do not show up in the channels section of the device. They get fixed up in the music section and the channel section say"no items"

Any update on why some users can't sign in through the software?  Sign fails with "An unknown error occurred."

This hit me a couple days ago after I'd already used the 3.0 software for awhile.  I've got songs I've downloaded with my device synced but unplayable in the software until I sign in.

I enjoy listening to enya but not as much as my baby to fall asleep leaving me with thousands of plays from her resulting my "picks" to be misleading. Is there anyway to fix that

Zune still not updating from player but will update if I play songs in the software ,also my friends cards do not show up on my player just a "?" for the picture and no recent songs listed.

I don't get it why marketplace is not appearing on Canada region. They sell zune in Canada and restrict the access to Marketplace?

My total play count seems to be updating now.  However, the individual artist counts are not and new badges are not appearing either.  Any update on a fix?

My total plays are updating but my most played songs/artists are not. boo.

I see that play counts have returned if I play songs in the Zune software, but it does not increase no matter how many songs I play on the Zune player. Why?

Same problem here. Software update plays but not the player, and I use the player a lot more than the software. ;9

Same thing for me too. If I play music in the 3.0 software, the plays update...but plays from the Zune itself do not seem to ever update.

Yeah.. Same for me..  The plays in the Zune software itself update, but not the plays in Zune device.  Is there some kind of setting in the Zune or Zune software, or is this a bug?

Give it time, everyone... as she said, you won't lose any play counts, so don't panic.  At least we can see how many software plays we have.  Device play counts will surely be retroactively updated and functioning normally again soon.

lame. not only is there still an issue and it is oct. 9th. But, since the update, my touch pad sometimes still goes to the right even when i click the left side. I welcome new features and support but not at the cost of breaking things and not being fixed. Yes, this is a minor annoyance about the play count, badges, and picks not working... but should it still be broke? its working its way on being like this for a month now. Some people don't care about the social but being able to see others plays and share my own is something I check on a daily basis to find new music to purchase. Oh well...

Same problem.  I'll keep watching for a fix.

Also...would it possible to show more than 15 top songs and more than 5 top artists?  I've got quite a few songs, and 15 top doesn't really show me much.  Perhaps a top 30 or 50? Same with artists...I'd love to know how many plays my #13 artist has, and how close to badges I am, but top 5 doesn't really tell me all that much....

Only works for my computer plays. Hope it gets fixed, would like to know how much Nine Inch Nails I've been listening to. heh heh

Same issue here. Glad I found this thread so I didn't waste anymore time trying to figure out which setting I had incorrectly set.

Dude, this is absolutely ridiculous! It's effing November 12th and you guys still haven't resolved this issue. Microsoft is too big of a damn company to not have resolved this issue! Seriously!!!

I noticed it too. My plays from device won't update. Sounds like it will be the next woftware update when our play will be updated from the device. LOL!

Soits not just me thats having problems with my plays?? Shouldn't this have updated by now??

My plays have updated from 7805 to 7811 in the last two months. This is getting really annoying but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's upset.

Plays from my device are not updating for me eihter.  Anyone knows when this problem will be resolved?  

Plays not updating for all plays from the device.  And when they do, "Unkown Album" displayed and no album art.

I've noticed my play count updates correctly on the Zune Social website, but not within the software. Very odd.
