What do you think?

Saw it last night and knew exactly what is was for... :)

Rather good. It has a nice motion to it.

This one, along with Digital Kitchen's Zune ad (which the Zune team commissioned), are the two ads that should be seen on TV more often.

http://www.d-kitchen.com/project.php?p=106

Every album? I don't mind the commercial so much, but at least speak the truth.  You can't download every album. And on some of them, they let you download all the songs you haven't ever heard, but make you pay for the popular ones. I'm a Zune Pass subscriber, because its still not a bad deal, but "every album" is not the truth.

I agree. This is not a very good ad for several reasons. It definitely doesn't grab my attention.

I clicked on the RSS just to post the link that Richard posted. Now THAT is brilliant/memorable advertising that one can watch over and over.

i agree with gary. but loved seeing the cover of the mars volta deloused in the comatorium right after the album that said "with zune pass"

I am going to have to side with Gary.  I dont listen to that much music, outside of what I have, for a zune pass...but to say every album?  I know there are songs that I have looked for and cant find them.

Have to say, not impressed, which is a pain because I want the Zune to do well. That advert is a little overcomplicated. It's also telling people about something in an unoriginal way (it's meant to be a visual analogy I know but not very successfully). You could impart the same message in a completely original, attention-grabbing way.

I actually like this commercial. Of course the marketplace isn't going to have every album- every is a very difficult thing to accomplish. THe good this is that zune is working itself up there and expand its content. However, the another main aspect of the zune marketplace is the diversity of the music. I was particularly surprised to see all of the different Latin music they have, everything from latin rock to cumbia to duranguense and oldies.

Can't wait to see this commercial and others air on TV!

Richard

that is just AMAZING.. all zune should buy this idea

I definitely want the Zune to do well also.  I love mine. My wife loves hers. I'm going to buy my mother one for Mothers Day.  And I want more accessories and integration.  So I really want this device to take off.  I hope that people can see what a good device it is, regardless of the effectiveness of the advertising.

That music can put you to sleep, the ad is forgettable, and it does not really grad attention, so at first I wasn't able to figure our the words meant stuff until halfway through.

That digital kitchen one is really good, why not use it?

Yes, that ad is better. . .but they are trying to push the Zune Pass with the MS one. . .not the Zune in general.

I think its an excellent ad.  Every show I watch on broadcast TV, Every. Single. Show. has a Apple/iTunes ad, which never suggests one feature of the systems advertised.  I'm happy with this hip ad that at least suggests one feature of the system.  Bravo

Many props regardless for showing the cover of De-Loused in the Comatorium at 0:23. =)

I was super excited as well to see a glimpse of TMV Delous album. I shrieked in excitement! haha I thought the commercial was good, i saw the link to the other video a commenter put and thought that commercial was amazing with the bird.

Also the new update i think is a big imprvement. I was having trouble with my 80 having it reseting butit now longer does.:) thanks.

wow, I think I am going to sign up for a zunepass. love the new commercial.

Liked it; the obvious vision for a subscription music service is pay-once and listen-to-everything, and it isn't quite there yet.  That said, I just ignore everything that isn't available with the pass.  I bought the Radiohead album, but everything else comes from  the pass.

I think that with the proper marketing, those who aren't afraid of paying for music will gravitate to the Zune Pass to buy what they want, and listen to everything else when they feel like it.

Well, I thought the ad was well done, but it isn't as good as some of the previous ones.  But, I need to add, it is HYSTERICAL that the add is about Zune Pass, it is about downloading 'all you want' yet one of the last albums seen in the add is De-loused in the Comatorium by Mars Volta, which is NOT available for download via zune pass.  Now, I am a Zune pass subscriber.  I have been since the day gen 1 zunes were released.  I know its shortcomings, I know that you frustratingly can download 9/10ths of an album but the 1 popular song needs to be paid for.  I know that many artists labels aren't on board yet.  This add is basically a slap in the face though.  How can you highlight an album that isn't even available?

My take on this is that it's a much better advertisement than the previous two released for the second gen devices.  I do agree though, the ad posted above with the bird is amazing!

I'm continually surprised by the sheer % of people who are unaware of the genre of subscription based music services.  Napster/Pressplay has been around since 2002 (i subscribed 03-07).  I like that MS is recognizing that they need to promote $14.95 for *almost* unlimited music downloads (the ones you can't get, just go buy used on amazon.com, and don't complain. just because your favorite obscure artist isn't on ZunePass doesn't mean ZunePass isn't still a fantastic value).

I think they should stick to heavily featuring the product, which this is trying to do - it just doesn't make it quite obvious enough.  It takes about 4-5 album covers before you discover you're reading a coherent thought, after which you've already lost half the meaning!  But stick to product - Apple has already done culture, let them do it.

Honestly, I wasn't able to catch the message via the album covers...not until near the end. But anyway, I agree with Richard, you guys should almost without any debate buy the "Music is Life" ad; it actually shows what a Zune is and it has a very powerful message about music, two things the Zune team has long stood for.

Like Richard pointed out, that's a pretty good one. The way the music brings a bird to life has a much more nicer to-the-heart feel then many of the other Zune ads.

And the Raw Deluxe ad that Eptin suggested would also be great at showing off how modern and fine the new Zunes are.

This ad should really make note that the Zune Pass is a MUSIC RENTAL service. I've heard complaints how some users think that the songs they download with that, means they can keep them forever. Instead of saying subscription, rental would be the better word choice.

the Zune Pass is a strong advantage and about my favorite feature of my Zune. Unfortunately this ad doesn't communicate that very well. Remember you want to grab some parents who for the $50-$60 iTunes bill per month that they can get almost unlimited music for $15 per month.

Yeah, I definitely have to agree with some others here.  In the beginning I could download nearly every song, and now an increasing amount of them are buy only.  A lot of these songs I can go to Rhapsody or Napster and download them with their subscription plan but not with Zune.  While I still use it the Zune pass seems to be less and less of a good deal compared to others.  The ad seems a tad misleading.

Did anyone catch the Zune reference on the Colbert Report during The Word last night? Colbert suggested Bush buy a Zune.

Not a bad ad :) I liked it. I didn't realize the record covers were displaying a message at first.

I'm glad to see you guys are now pushing the ZunePass more! Hopefully it will get more people excited about Zune, and also other record labels interested in using the ZunePass system.

Oh, this new ad is just dreadful. I didn't get what the ad was for (the messages on the albums didn't register) and the music used is completely forgettable. This ad is certainly not going to be wining any awards (or many new customers).

Zune would be smart to go in the direction of the bird-back-to-life ad that's genius...that's the tone and spirit an ad campaign needs if Zune is ever going to be able to compete.

Fantastic ad; won't be surprised if it nabs at least one award this year, but hopefully it manages to do its job and sell the product too. I'd say it's a little risky because it asks the viewer to pay attention to get the message.

Love the record store imagery, likening the service to scanning the stacks for new tunes at the old record store. I think that attitude helps differentiate Zune's branding from iPod's, and it's something they should keep running with.

hey cesar. the ad is nice. i cant wait till i actually see a zune commercial. ive only seen maybe 2 to date.

also on a side note, i was in the middle of watching heroes episode 2 season 1 on the software and then it just shut off and started from the beginning. i cant even click where i want to start off because the tracker doesnt move. what gives? shouldnt i be able to track where i am at least on a one hour show! now i dont have time to watch it before work.

sorry, but i really don't like the ad. the raw deluxe one is much better

Yeah, this ad is really boring and its hard to tell what it is for, I dont think most people will catch the transition from regular albums to them actually having a message. I really think the zune team should use that ad that shows the boy bringing a bird back to life with a zune, now that commercial grabs my attention!

What's the song used in the video?

Richards link has a fantastic commercial. Loved it!
