This is it. Number 50. Five-Oh. To celebrate the golden anniversary of New Music Friday, I'm taking DavidMX's suggestion and linking out to 50 tracks. You know, holiday spirit and all that ;)

Ok! Seventy-four tracks! Enjoy!  Quick note: I'll be taking a vacation next week, back in early January. So no posts until then.

Have a safe Holiday, enjoy the music, and thanks for reading!

DavidMx8!

Merry Christmas to Zune Team, Cesar an all Zune users. A King was born on this day.!

The end of of 2007 was good for Zune, I hope 2008 will have even bigger and better things :)

hey cesar,

my Zune premium earbuds shocked me, literally, electric shock. i think it conducts electricity, it's done it twice, when i mix polyesters and fleece. it's not like a single shock either, it's more like a slow conduction of electricity, like a buzzing, but slightly painful. look into that before my eardrums asplode.

oh, secondly, my zune 80 is getting a large quantity of dust below the screen. most of it is on the lower right corner, some on the upper left, and particles scattered all over the screen. if i open my zune to clean this, will i void my warranty?

THIS IS MADNESS!!

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Where's our Zune Unicode/East Asian Font support?

Thanks a lot for the songs this week.  The Cut Copy track is mind blowingly good!!!

1. Merry Christmas :)

2. Congrats on the big 5-0!

3. I was just looking at zune-arts.net and... where'd the bunny go!?

You're welcome for reading, and thanks for blogging!

Cesar?

When was the last time have you been on the Zune Social forums ? This may not be the most pleasant post. But i am finding that there are a few persons on the forums who seem to make it their point to flame people who have valid problems or optinions that may differ from the typical microsoft line. I visit the forums regularly and i have not seen any admin intervention in regards to these issues.

Just an observation..

Thank you

Hi Cesar,

Sorry to contact you through your blog, but I’m really losing all hopes on this issue… and the fix is only a matter of design decision, not development.

I’m not in the USA, but I bought a Zune 30 in Dec 2006. I always used an EN-US OS with MUI packs, so it worked just fine.

As an owner of an old Portable Media Center, I’m very happy with the Zune performance and size. The only thing I really can’t understand is the lack of east asian fonts. While the Portable Media Center v1 could show Japanese and other complex languages just fine since PMC 1.0 AKU1, the Zune is the only portable media device I could see since years that cannot display it correctly.

It is even more bothering to know that the software could support it just fine and only lacks the fonts.

I understand the target market is USA only at this time, but thinking “Customers within the USA” equals “People who listen only to north American music” seems like a huge oversight…

And I’m not talking only about making the device look more pretty, having several artists and songs displayed as □□□□□ generates a real usability issue.

Even Microsoft employees living in Seattle faced this issue, as you can see on Michael Kaplan’s blog:

http://blogs.msdn.com/michkap/archive/2006/12/08/1242102.aspx

I was really hoping to see this issue fixed in the second generation firmware, but unfortunately, there is still no hopes for us people interested in cultural diversity.

For your information, all the fonts required to support Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Hebrew and a few other languages would take less than 25MB. While this would indeed make the firmware bigger, it would not make the device slower, as the fonts would be loaded only if needed, and people who have such tracks would definitely prefer to have real titles instead of □□□□□. This only means 20-25MB of HDD space used, which is definitely nothing even on 4GB flash models.

I understand the Zune uses a special typeface that’s part of the Zune brand, but east asian fonts are always different anyway, so the existing Windows CE fonts could be used as it, and anything would look better than series of squares.

Hopefully this can be discussed internally and moved forward… “Welcome to the social” should start by respecting cultural diversity.

I really hope someone can look into this and check in a few fonts for 2.4.

Thank you for reading,

Have a happy new year everyone!

Please Cesar can you please make a news post about this petition:  http://www.petitiononline.com/Zune0/petition.html

It's to release the Zune worldwide, nearly 100 people have signed already.  It would mean alot to me and all the others in the world who want the Zune to post it on your site, thankyou.

My podcast subscriptions becomes unsubscribed autmatically.. do you know why? I have around 40 podcasts.. everyday i had to re-subscri,,. ..i am not alone.. see the forum below.. do you guys working on this?

http://forums.zune.net/10861/ShowPost.aspx

Is there a way for artists to submit their own songs to the Zune Marketplace? I have a friend who would like to distribute his band's new album through the Marketplace where it can get more attention.

I love you!

Hi, Cesar-

What recommendations do you have for a new Zune user that wants to do (guest) updates while traveling on a corporate laptop?  (As in Windows Update is blocked, and only updates pushed out thru WSUS get onto the machine...)

The zune80 is shakin' on buy.com today!
