Does anyone know if it will fix the duplication problem?

Does this address the issue where certain songs will re-sync to the device EVERY TIME you sync?

I have about 200 songs that re-sync to the device everytime I connect it and I have no clue why.

Does this address the issue where there is no auto-playlist feature?  ;)

Hopefully firmware update 2.4 and a software update aren't too far off in the future so we regain some of the lost features (i.e. editing meta tags of MULTIPLE songs) and gain the most desired features (i.e. Zune as a external harddrive).

Got it! Just went into the Device Settings screen and it was waiting there for me to click Install. I can't wait to enjoy my Zune 30 without that frustrating battery issue. Lately, every time I pick up my Zune I wonder if it'll be dead again, but hopefully no more!

I do assume this means no more firmware updates for this month at least. i predict that the zune team is going to wait to see what other problems/issues arrive out of everyone opening their new sexy zunes at xmas (I get my zune original, and my two brothers get zune originals too and my mom wants my 30) then after the feedback they fix what they deem important along with a new feature or two? hopefully? lol

also good news for me! because this said wireless update sync problem fix/stability i tried it and it didnt work. what i did to fix it is go under administrative tools and one of the zune services was on manual startup so i set it to automatic restarted all the zune services and now it works!!!! sorry for the long post guys haha im pretty pumped now

For 2.4, please add a bookmarking feature. You must do this. Audiobooks are useless without it. Thanks for the upgrade!

Idea: add the "add to quicklist" feature to the now playing menu. So when you're listening to a song, you just middle click and click "add to quicklist," rather than middle click, go to artist, pick album, pick song, add to quicklist.

It just makes sense!

Having to select one the following artists definitely isn't getting any easier with this release:

Now lets look at the font sizes for Windows CE versions (simpler than Vista versions):

MSGOTHIC.TTF (Japanese) 3.97MB

MINGLIU.TTF (Traditional Chinese) 5.98MB

MSSONG.TTF (Simplified Chinese) 2.44MB

GulimChe.TTF (Corean) 5.25MB

...

I bet all special fonts for Japan, China, Korea, Thai, Hebrew, Arabic, ... would take between 20 and 25MB. Does really anyone care for a 25MB footprint to support all artist and tracks titles when the smallest device is 4GB ?

And even if you don't want to push that 25MB to everybody, why not make it optional for those of us who actually do care about the difference between □□□□ and □□□□, like it was on the Portable Media Center ?

I am not sure if you can help me... I am trying to update my zune software and I keep getting this error message:

The 2.3 update made my zunepad response much better. As I thought it should have responsed. Clicking down on the zunepad actually works now! :D

Zune software didnt notify me there was an update when I plugged my Zune in. Does this happen to everyone or just me? If it happens to everyone you guys shouuld have the software notify the user. I had to go to my settings and find it.

Hi, Wouldn't it be brilliant if the market place gave you the option to order the case and art with it. So you could get the music instantly and have the CD in the mail. For all those people, like me, that like to have all that stuff. As it stands the Marketplace it the biggest reason I'm ordering a Zune from America, I had a go on my dad's and I have to say I'm impressed, it makes my iPod's wheel seem tedious and the menus seem clumsy. And I love my iPod. Anyway, let me know if that is even possible!

It looks like 2.3 also fix one annoyance. While playing a song, when you clicked on the center of the squircle (to say, select favorite) you would have to wait until the menu timed out to go back to the song. Now, you can press "<-". COOL!

When will you fix the touch not completely turned off when you select so in the Settings?

My zune is syncing worse since the update.  It's now hanging at 0% and giving me an error that my zune may be hung.  That's new.  Now, apparently it can't sync anything.  wow, just wow....

Still no unicode after 1 year? A friend loved his Zune 80 but had to return it... To get a sense of how he felt, open your XP notepad, copy the following line of text to it, save your file, close notepad, then open it again.

So I just noticed that the update also added in the ability to unsubscribe from podcasts on the device itself.

I called zune customer service and they said that this update would be fixing the problem other and i are having of the zune randomly restarting.  I downloaded the update, and lo and behold my zune is still randomly restarting. what is going on?

Hasn't solved any of my wifi sync problems.

I really hate "ping backs" from other blogs. They should be outright banned as they clutter and ruin the comments.

Definitely helped me with wireless syncing.  Still having trouble with my Kerio firewall however, can't get it to connect with the firewall up.

cool, now you can unsubscribe from podcasts directly from the device. when you are listening to or watching a podcast, just click the center button and it will pop up with the description and a new option to unsubscribe or resubscribe.

Since when did they start censoring posts on here.  Are we only allowed to post positive things about the zune platform?  Really... I thought this was the one of the main places to go to speak out as a zune user whether it was good or bad.  Please let us know... If so, I will definitely take up the challenge of creating a highly visible, public site and forum dedicated to exposing all the zune's problems and the lack of support received.    

my zune 80 battery still sucks. I now cary my usb cable around with me just in case it needs a charge. ive prolly listened for about 3 hrs this morning and watch about 1hr of video and my battery is half gone.

I would love to hear your feedback about three of the biggest ZUNE gripes that keep getting brought up.

1.  Lack of Video Content on the Zune Marketplace.  What are the odds of seeing TV shows and movies up there in 2008?

2.  No backward compatibility with DRM files from stores like Amazon, Napster, and Walmart.    It's a Microsoft format, it's crazy for them to not work on the Zune.

3.  Why doesn't Zune work with Windows Media player (another Microsoft product).  I am sure many people will agree that WMP is a much better, feature rich, music management tool than the current Zune software.

I do wish that they would  create an update that would add at least 10 more steps to the volume control on both the 30 and 80. # 10 is too low and 11 too high? Easily resolved by adding these steps. Also, I know seeing this is prob more of a hassle than anything else but,......... PLEASE give the Zune80 a parametric eq. I returned my 80 for this reason. I have some hearing issues and need to be able to tweak my settings. Yes, this WAS a deal-breaker for me. And I loved the 80 so much (BUT,....... I still got meself a 30) and want to get it back!!!!

It's always been like that..

my biggest problem with the 2.2 update was it changed my artist and songs wrong and it pissed me off so bad i had to fix tons of my songs. i have almost 4,000 songs. also when i sync it will sync at least 20 songs everytime so when i play them on my zune there on there on there a million times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope the 2.3 update will fix the duplicated songs because thats my biggest hated issue.

now as far as what zune needs to add is.......

1. videos on marketplace

2. easier video formatting (more flexible)

aka i hate encoding all my videos -.-

3. make it possible to change the font size on main menu cause its too big

4. sends songs to other zunes PERMINATLY as long as they have no license crap such as if u bought them from the marketplace.

5. software for PC needs to be like old software as with the new software you can't edit song names and such worth C***!

Please, please, PLEASE add bookmarking.  A new media type of Audiobook would also be welcomed.  I just want to turn my Zune off and have it remember where I was when I power back on.  Even the simplest mp3 players do this...

All I can say is, there must have been SOMETHING wrong that caused these problems, great care should be taken whilst updating. Loosing the connection whilst an update can be messy for the firmware. This behavior with the Zune is unacceptable from the consumer point of view though, i know im not having these problems but now i AM officially ticked off too :@

After i got the new 2.3 update my zune won't connect to the computer i plug it in and nothing happens.

there a few things i would like in the next year. maybe, if when ur zune is connected, u can see your friends(zune.net) and from your zune social tab, send and share music and messages right from your zune.

my 8gb upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3 as well and i am having the same problems as cariyawa. plays fine to start but as soon as i skip it goes to the next song, but it doesn't play and i can't do anything else besides shut it down

For those getting an error updating the firmware:

If you're running Vista, disconnect your Zune, run Zune software as Administrator.  I went to Settings > Device > Device Update.  Clicked install, and it worked for me.

I have updated my firmware and I am still having the problem. I think I may know what is causing it though:

* When I get to work I pull my black Zune 30 out, plug in the headphones and flip the hold switch off.

* At this point the Zune 30 wakes up, the screen shows the battery at about 90%

* I get distracted and don't touch the Zune until after lunch, when I go to start playing music the screen shows the battery at about 20%

So I'm thinking that the screen turns off, but it doesn't auto-sleep after a hold switch initiated wake up with no other activity.

What's the chances of actually having the Zune work in both usb mode and mtp mode along with the Zune software to satisfy almost everyone's wants by giving everyone a total of three options that Microsoft created anyway?

i am having a problem updating my zune software to 2.3. It is very very frustrating. My error code is C00D1249. I can not even use my zune when I diconnect it. There is a message on the screen telling my to connect it to the computer but again I keep getting this error code. I've had my zune for alomst a year and i've never had this problem. Same problem here, 2.3 will now freeze when I try and skip songs. No fix that I know of except for a hard reset by pressing up and the back button.

Come on MS, it's about time to offer Chinese fonts on the update.

As "Silent-User" has said, it is really important to take  precautions when we are updating firmware. But I really need to emphasis that it is a problem in zune firmware 2.3 it self, because I downgraded my zune to firmware 1.4 and it works fine.

I'm really having issues with not being able to individually edit artist names and other info. For example, I had quite a few songs (around 15) that had "unknown" for the artist name. I tried to change the first song on the list to the correct artist, and it changed all of them! When I went back, it wouldn't allow me to switch them individually, only the entire group at once. I even tried switching to list view so I could see a 1/1 song name to artist list, but when I edit the artist, it simply switches back!!! This is driving me crazy! i know this software sucks bigtime. it needs a lot of work. i lost 600 songs yesterday when i took auto sync off and deleted from the library. hard to edit, cant choose album art manually, no drop down lists for editing, no ag editing like windows media player. i have to edit in media player. you can do that instead of editing in zune. First edit in windows media players advanced tag editor or find album info features, then you can go into zune when the tags are correct uou can edit in zunes list view.
