We will be launching our Zune Marketplace Podcast Directory with approximately 1,000 podcast feeds shortly.  The reason we are doing this is to seed the catalog with a base level of podcasts that Zune users and podcasters can build on over the next few months.  Being a long-time podcaster, I understand that most content providers want to know about where their podcasts are being distributed and thus would want to actually submit his or her feed to us.  It has been exciting over the past few weeks to have so many podcasters contact me and request inclusion in the new Marketplace podcast area – the catalog will have the first 1000 or so from us, but the rest will come from the podcasting community.

Please plan on downloading the new Zune Marketplace software on November 13th, then visit the main podcast section in the software to “Suggest a Podcast” for inclusion in the public Podcast Marketplace.

We also have a cool “Personal Podcast Feed Submission” feature in your podcast subscription collection area that is accessible after login inside of the new Zune Marketplace.  This personal feed submission feature will enable advanced podcast users to add a personal list of podcast feeds to their own subscription “Collection” area.  Each of those personal feeds submitted to your collection will not be seen by me or my team for general marketplace inclusion.  This will be your personal and private collection of podcasts that some may or may not be in the general marketplace podcast library.

Thanks so much for all the on-going support as we ready for launch.

Awesome! I'm assuming the new firmware comes with the new software, correct?

I finally feel like the zune was a wonderful investment now. I bought it a week after launch, and after almost a year without any major updates, I felt neglected. However, this whole entire upgrade makes it all worth it.

Thanks for everything!

i like podcasts. but i hate white chocolate.

Exxxcelllennnt  (burns style)

Any idea on what time the software will become available.

looking good team! is 13th a Friday by any chance?

You can bookmark a podcast with the new firmware, but can you bookmark an MP3 audio book?

I would love to know how well the new firmware will handle audiobooks also.

Awesome! All these new announcements are REALLY adding fuel to the rocket, which I might say, we are all waiting for to finally launch! :D Hit the BIG FAT RED BUTTON ALREADY MICROSOFT! ;)

Quick Question

Will the new Marketplace support Windows xp pro 64 or will we be left in the dark like last time ?

Do you want your Podcast listed in the Zune Marketplace Directory? Well you will want to follow the instructions as outlined on the Zune Insider Blog. As I understand it the listing will not be automatic and their will be...

@Jaxim:

Well, since there's no dedicated audiobook section I'm guessing you could just file the book under podcasts and then it'd bookmark.

Please add this to WMP 11 as well!

I still prefer media playback in WMP 11, than any of the other programs out there.

Microsoft shouldn't forget their own other programs when they make similar ones. That's what always makes me mad.

Uh, any way to submit without downloading Zune Marketplace software? I'm on a Mac, but our podcast applies to any platform. Even a wee little web form, perhaps?

So why not allow us to submit our podcast lists now?  That way you can launch with more than 1000 podcast?  I've got 45 podcast that I subscribe to and I bet half of them are not on your list.

Will this new software work with Windos Vista (Mexico)?

This past week saw the launch of the new marketing campaign for the new Zunes heading our way November

I'm pretty sure the new software will work on Windows Vista (the last time they tried that they got pwned big time eventhough vista was still in beta.) as for as XP Pro 64x thats a pretty good question. I would wonder how many consumers use it.

Great to see the Zune team filling a void here.  Looks like you guys are really putting together something different for the market.

This is perfect timing -- I just won a Zune at PodcampAZ today and this upgrade sounds awesome1

Hi Cesar,

I noticed that in Amazon technical details for the new Zunes said supported languages are English, French and Spanish, but in Zune.net it’s only English.

Probably it’s only an Amazon error, but it would be great if Zune support other languages, especially Spanish.

Can you PLEASE get rid of the dumb points system in the new marketplace?  I'd like to be able to buy music with real money.  Thanks!

I believe the microsoft points system is really what allows you to be able to use the same currency accross microsoft's websites and stores. As long as they use MSPoints, which is a micropayment system it allows them to more easily apply your purchasing power across the board. i could be wrong about all of this though.

Will the directory also include Video content?

Thought that just entered my head... it'd be amazing if you could check for and download new podcast episodes directly from your Zune if there's a wi-fi network you can connect to.

Yay! I hope this will persuade more podcasters to include wmv format, dang-it! How many of you are tired of having cruddy mp4/m4v format that sits in your Zune all messy. I like wmv because it can be edited and categorized.

I am really excited about this.

I appreciate the fact that MSNBC's podcasts have a Zune link.  Seems like they should have the Zune subscribe button too.

I don't see the "Suggest a Podcast" link on the Marketplace->podcasts page. I have "Add a Podcast" on the Collection->podcasts page. Am I missing something or did it not make it in the first software release?

Thanks,

Tom

I just found the "Suggest a Podcast" link on the Podcast page. The borderless window design is very confusing and the scroll bar on the right side makes you believe it is only to scroll the podcast contents and not to access other links. I think this new design will confuse many users.

Also, what happen to the ability able to view music in the Collection page by Genre? I have a number of podcasts in my music Collection  (before podcasts were supported) that I was able to access by selecting the Podcast Genre in the previous desktop software but now it's gone.

Hi Rob,

tried to install the Zune Marketplace, but the install failed on my machine with a strange message.

Anyway, I would like to suggest to include the Software Engineering Radio podcast at www.se-radio.net (I am the editor there...). I think it would be a good addition.

Thanks,

Markus

How do I submit a current podcast to the Zune Marketplace?

Rob~! or anyone else:

Does anyone know how to 'ping' the Zune Directory so that it updates the description etc?  I see that my episodes are updated, but not the description of the show.

Shake Down Trance Podcast

Christopher,

Your podcast decription has been updated. Should be showing up very soon. Thanks for letting me know.

Zune Podcasts

I've submitted our podcast to the directory a handful of times over the last 3 weeks.  How long does it normally take for a podcast to appear in the directory?

thanks.

Chris Davis

If you feel disheartened because of the astonishing amount of time it takes to find what you are looking for, cheer up because you are one step closer to your goal.

Rob,

I submitted 3 podcasts in the marketplace when you went live, and still they don't appear.  Who is sitting on their hands at Microsoft?  We list in good faith and then nothing happens.

Totally not impressed with Zune Marketplace at all.

James

It's been three months and no new podcasts have appeared. It seems Zune has reneged on this statement.

So where is the "Personal Podcast Feed Submission" feature?

Can you go over how overdrive works with Zune in the next podcast?  Thanks.

hey, i submitted my podcast a couple weeks ago and it hasn't showed up. it seems like this is common. Why does it take so long and sometimes not at all? I've got some zune owners waiting for it to show up.

I second that comment from Mike.  I know my podcast was valid when I submitted it (no errors.  That was over a week ago and still no sign of it even when doing a search.  What up with dat?

Very good job. Add your blog to bookmarks.

It has been several months since we submitted a podcast RSS feed to Zune. Noting yet.

We do a radio show and have a large number of listeners reporting the same problem.

We also updated an RSS feed to a podcast that did actually make it on Zune.

After the update Zune is still displaying the old graphic.  The old graphic has been completely removed from our server but is still being displayed on Zune Marketplace.

I can't find any information if the RSS for Zune needs to be any different than for other site submissions?

We have had a number of listeners complain about Zune players going dead after getting them as gifts.

Microsoft wants $100 to fix the brand new players.

I guess I dont understand any of this.

Seems like a good player and a great idea.

What is Microsoft doing?

I can understand why they are not making any inroads to the market even though I believe the player to be better than the competition.

Very disapointing.

I have submitted my podecaste some time ago it's taking so long time.

Why does it take so long and sometimes not at all? I've got some zune owners waiting for it to show up.

How do I submit podecaste
