Firmware update please? I love the new music...just. I would like to have my zune updated if possible. Or some confirmed stuff about the Zune 2. Cesar, can you comment on either of these things?

Ricardo Dawkins

Oh, man...those are the real Zune 2. He didnt place his trademarked No Comments on Rumors post.

Attention Zune Team: white flags will be rised around the world if those are the new Zunes.

Nate

Ricardo, you are funny.  You should get Cesar's job when he's promoted to VP and is too well paid to blog.

Nick

Wait...What are you talking about Ricardo?

admin

zoa - we're not talking about future stuff right now, so nothing to add other than "they're coming"

ricardo - "we don't comment on rumor and speculation" - there, happy? ;)

Eddie

"They're coming"

I liked that response Cesar. But can you say something like "this year" or "next year" please?

Kyle

Zoa 342

Okay, thanks Cesar. I'm gonna download some Pink Floyd now. =), Gotta love the Zune Pass, and i'll stop talking about firmware and other stuff when you say we can. ;)

Eddie

Hey Cesar, the white Zune took the #1 spot on Amazon for MP3 players!

Congrats!

Zoa 342

Eddie, must because it's so cheap, good night people, Zune Music tomorrow.

LAjunglist

i've been reading this blog for a while but never commented before... i'm very happy with my zune but a refresh is long past due... but i'm actually here to ask something... i had my zune all in sync with my 360 and my game froze i turned it off and unplugged my zune and the display showed it was still charging... now it will not sync with my computer... my plan is to drain the battery and then try and charge/sync the zune with my pc and see if that works... anybody else have any experiences with the xbox/zune both effin up at once???

sportsunit

My first thought is that the squirkle design isn't as pleasing to the eye initially.  I guess I'd have to see it in person also but, lets just say it's not photogenic.  Hopefully, the form factors are a bit more innovative all across the board.

Yo, C!

http://origin.arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070920-launched-too-zune-patent-reveals-whereabouts-of-the-social.html

Oooh... you guys are sneaky!!! That'd be wicked if this feature were actually added in the future, though.

;)

Diego

Cesar, what do you think of zunescene statement that the Zune 2 will be released on Oct. 16?

Personally, I think MS would wait at least a year to release it(the Zune was released Nov.14 if I remember correctly). You guys are doing a very good job at keeping everything a secret, maybe too good of a job. You just can't leave us with "They're coming". At least say "this year" or "next year".

There are a few things I know the Zune 2 will consist of: 1. Higher capacity 2. better battery-life 3. improvements on wi-fi

There are too many flash-based mp3 players out there, and I don't find it necessary the Zune should create its own. Just concentrating on a one solid Zune 2 is good enough. However, a Zune phone sounds interesting...

Matt

I hope those pics aren't the new ones, unless they hover or have lasers in them or something.  I'll just sit here and await the continued deafening silence.

dbro

yeah zune sales seem to be picking up...also I finally saw a Zune in the wild in Philly 2 days ago.

Ricardo Dawkins

It's at #3 now, but that's still great! Right now, it's only being outsold by the 80GB black Classic and 4GB silver Nano. That means it's actually selling better (on Amazon) than the iPod Touch. Yikes!

See what happens when Zunes hit $150? Pretty good if you ask me!

John in S.Florida

That $129 Woot deal is sweet.  Somebody is in hurry to clear/liquidate existing inventory. ;)

Ricardo Dawkins

A small giveaway for a set of V-Moda Vibes for anyone who buys a White Zune on woot!

@$%# the Zune 2.

Where's the Firmware <strike>leaks</strike> Info.

Hi Cesar. I've responded before and I'm aware of MS's no comment policy. I'm an early adopter of the Zune and I take it nearly everywhere I go. Scouring the internet constantly here's what real Zune fans know: We like our Zunes, we really don't care about the "Draco", that's just there for nano competition, sansa (etc) and recreational users; our Zunes work just fine, but were "crippled" due to the limitations of the modified gigabeat hardware and possible legal ramifications in the audio-video aspect (i.e. "pod"casts, other a/v codecs);firmware has been far stretched and very disappointing. Here's what we know about Zune 2. Nothing; The obviously mocked up images are hopefully not the real thing;in fact the only safe thing to assume item is that no features will be removed and there will be an 80 gb version. Secrecy to keep competition at bay aside, we loyal Zuners are either salivating helplessly or planning to jump ship (not me). Anyway, I'd like to say that this is a very crucial moment for the Zune. With loyal members wavering, competition product and (finally) pricing lowering and no news, no announcements, no official statements, hell, not even a date - if Zune 2 doesn't kick all kinds of butt, you may keep going because of pride or investments, but the "me too" image will stick and the Zune will pretty much be the Burger King to the McDonalds standard. As a Zuner, I understand the need to not comment, keeping all competition completely in the dark. I think what we really want is an official date (announcement and launch) so we can relax, breathe easy and wait to justify our love on that date. Now, I'd like to go into the features, but I think people have sounded off enough about more stuff than even my list has AND given some articles I read a long time ago, you guys probably already programmed them in but again, hush, hush. Now, after saying all this, I don't expect you to comment, even on your own blog - so how about a "I hear you", "Zuners will rule", or even better both and a date!

Ricardo Dawkins

@timedriter

drift in time, dude...and bring the firmware from the future... ;)

John in S.Florida

dSharp, the good news is that current Zune inventory is being reduced with deals like that from Woot.  You Zune employees like Bill Wittress and David Caulton who have come out of hiberation and blogged for the first time in months.  Its obviously pointing to an imminent announcement.  Probably next week.

But I understand your frustration.  Zune has had a frustrating early life.  We've been loyal customers, we've given Microsoft space and benefit of the doubt...so I understand why many are on the edge of slamming them now.  Microsoft needs to do the right thing and I'm sure they will.

Snipes

Cesar,

I hope you make the "army jeep green" Zune that rumors say.  But I have to ask, will it match the special edition green XBOX?  That's what I really want.  I read in a seattle newspaper that would be the "jeep" color.  Is it true?

mongchacha

dSharp75...i couldn't have said it better.

Dan D

yea. dsharp75 that was a good comment. i know earlier i said i would jump ship but i was just blowing off steam because im really upset about getting absolutly nothing for updates. my zune barely works as its supposed to. i mean yea it does the basic functions but i think early adopters like myself created false hope of great features even basic features that should have came months ago like more codec support so im not converting all night. well hopefully we get a date even if its just a year id be happy haha.

Rohit

Guys no date or anythinf is going to come till Halo 3 launch is over with. They will follow up the Zune right after that. I would guess a week after Halo 3.

John in S.Florida

Rohit, maybe so but that would be highly disappointing because they have an opportunity to take "center stage" at the DigitalLife event in New York city next week.  Zune needs to have real red carpet treatment and not some canned press release and coverage on Zuneinsider and/or on10.net.  They don't have to look to Apple on how to do an announcement right, just model the XBox 360.

dsharp75

What's up fellow Zuners! Hey, thanks for so many of you guys/girls chiming in on my condensed plea/statement to this blog. It not only validates my thoughts, but it's ultra cool that I'm not alone in the "suspense is killing me" feeling and also not in bashing the product, but antsy about the future. Rohit's right - since I don't play xbox (I know blashemy - not enough time right now, sorry). Once the Halo 3 launch/release is over next week we'll hopefully get out announcement. Hmmm, the 10/16 is 4 weeks before the original launch date last year as someone else pointed out - so announcement 10/16 - product 11/13? Hmmmmm...

Kyle

I wasn't trolling.  If you still have a copy of what I wrote please show it to people at microsoft.  Thats all I wanted to acomplish by posting that here.

Rohit

John in S.Florida

I mentioned Halo 3 because if Zune is announced right between Halo 3 hype..its message will get lost. But then again it will all depend on if the Zune is ready to go mainstream. Zune 1 was specifically targeted toward certain audience. I am not sure Zune 2 is going to be ready for mainstream. Zune 3 maybe. This year is about building in some solid capabilities and next year is when fun will start.

But I am only guessing.

Dan D

rohit. i agree with your statements except the last one. "this year is about building in some solid capabilites" dude we havent even seen any new capabilities except the very underprivlidged 3day shareing. im starting to think we arent going to hear anynews anytime soon. by the time we hear news ill have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering haha

Dan D

but there is one thing i dont get. how come we havent heard anything about us complaining. alot of fellow zuners complain our device needs more but all we get is a we hear you. and even still we only get a we hear you every couple months. maybe the zune team thinks we are only a small fraction of consumers wanting more. i really hope they realize we arent a small group of people that are getting fed up with the secrecy. all i want is month. or even a year.
