On Saturday, Zuneinsider.com will turn one year old. I started on the Zune marketing team in June of 2006. And I made the first post on Zuneinsider on July 21, 2006, opening with the line, "Hi there, welcome to my very special first blog post. You are special, too." A little later that day, I made the first official Zune post, and talked about my goal for the blog (italicized):

. . . Today, we’re admitting officially announcing Zune, via an article in Billboard. So what’s Zune? It’s Microsoft’s new, holistic approach to music and entertainment. . . So, in part, that’s where this blog comes in. Sure, I’ll have the official word on Zune, but really, I want to make this blog about music, music culture, videos, cool bands, things like that. Ok, well, here goes. [italics added]

I get a little teary nostalgic when I look back on the year. It's been fun to be a part of the Zune community, to listen to your thoughts/ideas, hear your frustrations, and represent the community's perspective in meetings (whether with the dev team, business development, or marketing). Thanks for making it a fun, challenging, and overall great year.

Wow!  1 year already???  Doesn't seem like it, but now that I think about it, I guess it has been a year!  Congrats for a great first year!

As they say in France: encore!

1 year and still no lossless audio support, bummer

It has been like a wild roller coaster ride. With all the hype and excitement that we always get and  with all the lows that we have reached when expected updates don't surface. But other than that pretty happy with my zune and this great community. Let's hope this lasts much more than one more year. Cheers!

@swanlee...LOL. don't expect anything. Expect nothing. seriously

@Romeodude. of course. it doesn't seem like it when the zune has the same features and shortcomings when it launched.

But anyway, we expect something better this 2nd year. Right, *zune team *

come on 1 year anniversary new features/zune 2 announcement!! (ya, even I'm not holding my breath on this 1... and I posted it)

As a way to celebrate the 1 year, it would be great if the Zune team announced a new firmware update with tons (not just 1 or two) of new features. We all love the Zune but know it has so much more potential.

You can just replace "Mr. President" with "Zuneinsider".... works just the same.

;)

Cesar... It's been a good year of your blogging. Thanks for making the Zune Community "Strong".

I think this website describes you the best.

Whoa that went by fast.. I noticed each year the year goes by faster and faster..strange..

@Jaxim: Dream on...

Man, quick year. No presents? Lame.

Whoa, that year went fast. Anyway, congrats cesar on a year of great blogging!

MS should celebrate by making some Zune 2.0 announcments.

I thought that, by now, Zune would have at least released a major software upgrade, with many new features. Oh well.

I hope that Zune 2.0 is an obvious blockbuster. I doubt that the brand can sustain another round of nasty-bad reviews.

Feliz cumpleanos, Cesar! Congrats, too -- you provide a good service for the Zune community, and you do it with style. Nicely done.

good year good year. Now come down to florida already! lol

What a bunch of whiners. Cesar celebrates one year of ZuneInsider and all you can come up with is "but it's been such a bad year for zune. SIGH". Go somewhere else and whine about your zune instead of coming to a website that promotes it and a whole culture of music.

Congrats on year one!

Thanks for everything Cesar, I still love my Zune!

WOW...it's already been a year.  You've done a great job Cesar.  With all the moving around that goes on in MS with employees leaving, I hope for MS's sake that important guys like yourself and Major Nelson stick around.  Take care....

A little early but... Happy Birthday from Afghanistan Zune insider!!  And Like zunerama I think Zune insider should give US presents for its birthday ;).  Well, great job Cesar, well done on the site and keep up the good work.

One year! cool.  As far as I'm concerned, this blog is the voice & face for the entire Zune team.  I do appreciate the effort you put into keeping this blog up to date.  Time to pop open some beers over there isn't it? :)

I think some of you are confused. The zune hasn't been out for a year, the blog has. So why would you be expecting any zune "birthday presents" when the zune isn't 1 year old yet. It hasn't even reached 9 months.

Anyways, Happy B-Day Zuneinsider!!!

Happy anniversary! What did you get me?

/Can't believe its been a year...

On what planet do you guys live where someone gives YOU presents on their birthday?

I'm extremely happy with my Zune, and more importantly, considering Cesar's post, this blog.  He's done just what he intended: Given us not just Zune news, but music news in general.  He's turned a lot of people on to new music, and free places to find it.

My mother taught me to be grateful for what I DO have, not ungrateful for what I DON'T have.  Too many here were evidently raised by wolves.

Not sure if this was posted anywhere...

I love how they wrap it up... "Zune zune ZUNE zune Zune zune dot net".

Congrats on a year and a big thank you for keeping me up to date on everything Zune.  Zune rocks (proud Marketplace subscription owner!)

Off topic..you got to see this sweet looking Windows Home Server.  Hopefully someone has figured out how to store Zune music and stream downloaded content from this.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Glad to see you've stuck with your original goals for this site.  Keep it up.

Happy Birthday!!!

And as a birthday gift can we get a podcast aggregator?

CNET is making fun of your product on your first Bday.

Congratulations Cesar, I love a good milestone.

I do like my Zune a great deal, and my wife likes her's but your blog and commitment to making it about the music has made it even better.

*NE* Bday for the Ages with 1.2 millions Zune sold...:D

When is the Zune coming to Australia, Cesar? If I don't hear something soon I'm going to have to just assume that Microsoft isn't interested in serving my media needs and trade my Windows PC for a shiny new Macbook.
