I thought I'd add a little more context to yesterday's post Jason Reindorp, the Marketing Director for Zune was quoted in the Washington Post:

The one million unit milestone is just one conservative step of many we'll take over the next few years as we continue to introduce new features and devices and build our brand

A few folks have said that the goal of being number two - which we've already achieved in the hard drive category, with about 10% marketshare - is too modest. Right now, though, we think it's very realistic. We're only 6 months in the market (although one could argue that we entered the market when we officially announced), and like Jason says, we have many more steps to take.

For me, the coolest part about Zune has been connecting with Zune users out there - I would agree with Nelson, Zune owners are a passionate bunch!

<edit> Fixed a bad link.

Microsoft's new Surface "coffee table computer" demonstrates that the company is indeed capable of creating products that are very innovative and totally cool.

I hope that Zune 2.0 will have the same flair.

Cesar - Can you let us know what to expect next in the firmware update and when?

It was awesome to know that xyz changes were coming up and around what time ... as in the last firmware update.

Thank you

I think its a good start. The numbers can only increase with new models, podcast support and wi-fi devlopment.

I like that, and I like what Steve Ballmer said about Zune this morning, about Microsoft's long-haul commitment to Zune.

"I would agree with Nelson, Zune owners are a passionate bunch!"

Damn right

You might want to change the Nelson link as it's trying to go through your OWA account :D

Two things... first, that link is not appropriate for a public blog as it is a link to a secure website where a login is needed.

Second, early adopters are generally more passionate than the average user.

Third, Zune rocks.

Hey isn't Friday Zune First?

3 years huh?

Don't ya think MS needs to move its time table just a bit sooner than 3 years?Apple will probably sell 300 million more ipods in the next 3 years.

Your link to the nelson comment linked to internal email which you need a password for??!!

I want my Surface compatible Zune firmware ...NOW!

I want a f**** 1.5 update that brings something NEW to the table.

I bought my Zune with a lot of faith and hope that the desktop Zune software would get some "developer love" soon.  Ya know, my Zune device works very well as it is.  The Desktop Zune software, while solid and stable, is woefully lackluster and underwhelming.  When can we expect some super-top-secret announcements about the desktop software?

I must say that with 1.3, I saw big improvements with performance, eliminating the skipping with Marketplace content, and making the UI more responsive.

After I saw today's post, I couldn't wait to get back into my lab to load the new firmware. I saw another big performance boost with the UI, with faster scrolling and have seen only 1 'spinner delay' in the last 6 hours...and I use mine nearly constantly at work!

Bravo, Zune Team, Bravo!  I know it is no trivial task to write the new features that everyone has been demanding, but I applaud you for keeping focus and priority on laying the foundation for a solid performing device (and it is impressively so!).  I know I stand in opposition to many here when I say this, but  releasing new features that could potentially break things can wait until the concrete cures.

I am going to be using my Zune for a long time, since it is the first MP3 player I have even owned...I can wait.  Still, keep up the good work, I'll keep in touch! :)

(Is a night-time dimmer in the works for 1.5, something dimmer than "Low Brightness"?  The brightness that is displayed while the device is syncing would be perfect for driving with it at night, since I have it on the dashboard, and a darker setting would cause less glare  ;)

Yeah if you guys want to sell the zune better you need to make sure it has the same features as it's competition

Gapless playback

Lossless audio support

Useable WIFI functions

User adjustable EQ

These are features that should have been there when it launched.

We do not need anymore firmware updates for little fixes we need something that actual make the Zune a competent music player.

Once it is to that point it will sell alot better.

So I have had my Zune for about 2 months and when I loaded my 3000 songs It took like five minutes to start up whats up with that

Why Cant I see how many songs I have on my zune. NOt even on the desktop
