New Zune TV Spot

The New Zune TV spot dropped Monday night - I'll have the spot posted tomorrow today (don't want to scoop anybody). You'll be able to catch the spot on channels like MTV, VHI, BET, and of course Adult Swim. And you can see the spot throughout the NBA playoffs and finals, and the season finales like Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, Lost, and Family Guy in top markets.

If you miss it - check back tomorrow. Also, wow - Heroes!

<Edit Tuesday 9:10 AM> Added the video.

could you please clarify what a "spot" is?  Maybe I am just ignorant, but does this mean commercials or something else?

TheMan

Will be looking for it. Keep up the posts.

Albert

Is there a certain time tonight? Also, Family Guy on which network?

madbikeskilz

Nice, im watching heros, didnt see it yet...its 930 did i not see it earlier, or has it not come on yet.

Lara

I tuned in but somehow missed the spot! Musta been in another room. :_(

Heroes was awesome, but boy do I hate cliffhangers.

kevin

chris

ahh! heroes was awsome! its like ahh with more ahh and even more ahhhh, but i wont ruin it

Serge

"The New Zune TV spot" = "Ad for a New Zune" or "A New ad for the Zune"? :)

LPX

Looking forward to them. =)

actually, "spot" means "commercial" . . . and "market" means "city"

:)

Albert

So only "top" cities get to see this? What...I had all my friends who watch several of those shows looking out...and so far...nothing. Guess, we'll have to wait for tomorrow.

Freakwncy

Sweet. Great demograph. to target. Hopefully with that range, the growth of the Zune will cont. to increase. I already see a small population starting to grow even over here in Iraq.

zuneone

Ok, I must have missed the spot but will wait for the youtube (Soapbox) version.  While I am here I have a suggestion for the Zune device software.

1. Recently Added Selections

Just like the PC software has 'Recently Added Selections' the Zune device also needs a recently added choice.

Case in point I have like 4000+ songs on my Zune.  I downloaded 2 new ones last night and don't remember what they were.

It is like finding a needle in an haystack.  If my Zune had 'Recently Added Selections' the process would be quick and painless. It could be up there with Artist, Album etc...

lunaclown

Man..Heroes is awesome!  These last few episodes are going to be insane.  I must have missed the spot but then again I skip past all the commercials when I use my Media Center PC.  Is the commercial going to run for a while on major channels?

Leo

zuneone: There is a way to do what you want! I do the exact same thing on my Zune. In the software, make a smart playlist by right-clicking on "playlist" and select "creat auto-playlist". Once you do that, you should be able to make a playlist that automatically adds new music. I have 5 different auto-playlists on my Zune so that I can always listen to the different songs I want and they playlists always get updated automatically. It's a great feature. My 5 auto-playlists are: New Music (Last 30 days), Most played, Best rated, Pre '00 Rock, Post '00 Rock. If people aren't using the auto-playlist feature, I really suggest you give it a try. the only problem with it is if you end up having more than 2,000 songs in a playlist, which is why I had to make 2 separate playlists for my rock music. Playlists that have more than 2,000 songs won't show up on the Zune player. Perhaps the Zune team could work on this bug. Anyway.. hope this helps out some people.

Stephen R Gibson

Hey, nice ad guys. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll buy one though. Just waiting for Podcast support and new Wi-Fi functionality to push me over the edge.

lunaclown

I think the commercial is very well done.  I'm sure it'll help sell a bunch of Zunes.  They got in all the features and that's the biggest draw of all.

timedrifter

ray

Just saw the ad and I have to say that certainly is the best zune ad so far. It was really effective and that version of the song sounded way better than the original! I must say it really got through to the viewer (me) all the features that make the zune rock and I'm glad it wasnn't anything like the old ones which were nice and all but simply didn't make you want to buy one. Well done to the marketing team for finally getting it right!

BTW, are there more ads than this Cesar?

Also if you're doing printed ads too can you post them too?

ENUZ

I will say this - you guys are boldly pushing new boundaries here, first with the Brown Zune, boldly proclaiming Brown is the new Black, and now with this 'Graveyard' inspired Ad.

Mostapha Samuel

this s*** is awesome..its so well done.

ray

Here is the youtube version-everyone rate and comment on it!!

Matt

Not bad, but unfortunately it looks like it's taking place in a cemetery.

Ricardo Dawkins

so a Dragon Ball Zetta (GT?) special move..Good one...

are there more ads coming, right ?

madbikeskilz

Very Nice, i like

Woody56292

OMG, that is how a commercial is supposed to be done. It conveys the general message of Zune ( community, party ) while showing off its features. ( wifi, fm tuner, large screen/video, colors/wallpapers )

I still think it needs to show some of the awesome interface.

Woody56292

oh yeah, I agree that heroes was awesome last night. too bad I didn't see this earlier or I would of paid attention to the commercials.

Hugh

Great look for Mims and Purple Popcorn who are on the remix of "This Is Why I'm Hot" entitled "This Is Why I Rock" Mims and company are gonna be in Seattle this Saturday on the Microsoft Zune sponsored tour.

damien

That is great! Very original, too! Nice job, guys! To me, the pink Zune certainly stands out, (maybe because there aren't a lot of players that color).

It's a really energetic spot, too!

John in S.Florida

Excellent video, nice!  If I was going to be a critic, I would say the the last second or two (display "Zune.net") seems a bit too plain.

Speaking of Zune.net, is there a reason you don't use Zune.com?

Gizmodo

Video: Zune TV SpotWe definitely like this new Zune ad from Microsoft, especially since it's the first new push since launch six months ago. The way they show off the Zune's features like picture viewing, sharing and FM radio is...

The Cyber Nerd

Love the ad!!!!!!!

It should do well :)

ray

I have looked at all the comments to this ad on other sites and it's nothing but a really positve response. The youtube one I posted got 232 views in an hour too! Once again, well done to the zune marketing department.

BJ Nemeth

The ad is a tremendous improvement over the previous ads. The older ads didn't even make it clear to me that it was for a portable digital audio player.

I think the new ad should be much more effective.

John Caboose

Wow, That ad is exactly what Microsoft should be striving for in the future:

A clean, to-the-point "What makes this device/OS/Software better than the competition's".

Lara

I personally feel that this commercial is a lot better than the last. It could be because of the statement that the Zune is hot, or MIMS, or maybe it's just more appealing than people just sort of hanging around with their Zunes. Plus it gives the whole music/videos/pictures/fm tuner thing at the end which is good for those who still think iPod is the only mp3 player out there.

Awesome.

Albert

AMAZING!!! Wow! is all I can say...SO much better!!!! Thanks for publishing it on Soapbox too...

nighthawkz6

I actually like this.

Kevin

Wow, nice commercial.  I can really see you guys took the suggestions we made (on forums) seriously.  That was a great commercial.  Not only was it cool and eye-catching, but it really showed of the Zune capabilities.  The commercial made it very clear that this was a cool device in many colors, which can listen to radio, has a huge screen, could share media, and was beautiful among other features.  The commercial was tastefully done, congrats!

Thanks for listening to our ideas, can't wait to see the commercials to come!

Soto

Wow, good job Zune Marketing Department! And good use of a popular song.

zuneone

Excellent commercial, you really made the Zune look cool and exciting.

Now you must play the commercial over and over and over so it gets ingrained in the viewers mind.

@Leo - I'll try your suggestion, never messed with the playlists before.  Time to learn something.

brutha-man

Good commercial.....maybe a bigger ZUNE logo at the end?

segadc

Good commercial. Definitely better then other ones.  And yes, HEROES was awesome!

Diego

Nice commercial. I definitely noticed the Dragon Ball Z fusion dance, lol. I'll keep an eye out when I watch TV, I have yet to see one of the previous commercials. I'm gonna place this commercial on my Zune!

FM

Sweet AD! Finally an ad that people will get!

Nelson

Great commercial, the brown at the end is the only negative thing I have to say about it. After a great commercial, a Zune logo like the one showed at the end of the original commercials would of been great.

Nice job with the commercial though, clear and to the point. Also makes the Zune look wicked cool.

patrick

graveyard. depressing.

Frig

What are you guys smokin'? Ya the ad is better than the previous disasterous attempts at branding, but it still feels like the commercial is trying to hard to say too much in such a short time. It comes across as nothing more than loud music and pretty pictures without any sort of coherent message. I don't think average joe who has never heard of the zune is going to respond to this ad. (oh yeah, I'm in the ad business if it's any consolation).

Toph

Great ad! iPod ads are so iconic, it's tough to compete, but this is rather nifty. So now we have three types of Zune ads:

1) The "viral" "ads" on zune-arts.net

2) The first-wave "traditional" ads

3) This new ad

I think 1 was good at building buzz, and some of them were really cool, but I suppose they're not very well-suited to be TV ads or anything. 2 were nice and all and built the brand, but weren't quite standouts in my opinion. This, however, does seem to stand out quite nicely. Keep it up. :)

sportsunit

commercial was tight... MS is stepping it up.  Nice to see that.

Ranger_000

Way cooler than those silhouettes Apple loves to prance around...  Zune FTW!!!

Charlie

YES.  I am so happy right now.  The Zune finally has not only a good ad, but something original, well done, and cool.

Bravo guys, this is what you needed, way to deliver.

-Charlie

Charlie

Although there was a temporary moment of crying...I thought there were new Zune colors in the commercial and got very excited.

Upon closer inspection it turns out to be the double shots glowing before the light hits the Zunes.

(tears)

Eddie

Haha that's a sick ad! I heard that mix isnt on the Marketplace though. You guys should put it up as a freebie or something. That's one of the best commercials I've ever seen

Bernardo

Cesar - the commercial is fabulous, but I can see how some people can see the part where all the Zunes are playing back the same video at the same time and misinterpret that as "oh, the Zune can let you share videos as well", when in fact currently it cannot.

...or is this a hint of things to come very soon?

Ricardo Dawkins

@Leo. Smart playlist is the sh!t...wow.. thanks man. rocking some "Salsa sensual" on my Zune...thanks again

John in S.Florida

Now that the XBox 360 Spring Dashboard Update has been released I guess we are next to get some (Zune) Spring Update goodness.

Jason

Why isn't the song available in Marketplace?  Its there but you cannot download it.  I think this would really help boost this ad campaign.

ray

Wow, I just checked the youtube version of it and in less than 24hrs it is already approaching 2000 views! Feedback is really positive too.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=MvrMB66Xy1I

Zune Insider

There seems to be a little bit of confusion on ye olde internets about videos produced for Zune, like

mike

Great ad! Is the GT fusion dance thing a real video?

RSX WHEEEEEEEEEEE

very very nice.

unfortunately i hvnt seen it on the TV. i guess atlanta isnt a major market???!!! (angryface)

Bb

good use of the 'social' theme without being casual, as well as highlighting what a zune looks like.  (That was the biggest problem from the old ads)

overall lets hope to see this in more primetime spots.

damien

@RSX:

Nice to see I'm not the only one here representing ATL!

Sw0rdf1sh

Awesome!  MS is advertising with all these great Media outlets like MTV and Adult Swim.  They even can create an Adult Swim Zune for the lucky owner!

What can't they do?   Get Video content through their vast partnerships for purchase on Marketplace!

Music only is getting old.   Half a year from launch and no change in Marketplace.  Sad.

Jaxim

I have to say that this new Zune ad "rocked". If the message wasn't already out, the message at the end of this ad ("music, video, pictures") will definitely make sure people know that the zune is much more than a music player.

RomeoDude

"This is why I rock" is so cool.  I'll have to find it and download it...

Anonymous Friend

Does abyone know where the Dragonball Z Fusion Dancing bears are from?

Tiffany

Love the reference to the fusion dance, obviously someone at Zune is a fan of DBZ. It was pretty random though.

Zune Insider

A few folks have noticed the video in the latest TV spot , the two characters dancing. Well, you can
