(Nice showcase of the big screen there ;)

Found via this thread on 'the scene

Y tambien quiero decir, si me entiendes: que los latinos en los EEUU han comprado Zune mas que cual quierr otro grupo (haci me quentan, tengo que averiguar).  Y tambien se que escribo mal - disculpenme!

I'm in Europe so I know nothing about MIMS, are they big in The U.S.? Anyway showed off the zune screen well.

Ok here is a very bad translation from google translate of what Cesar said in Spanish:

"And also I mean, if you understand to me: that the Latins in the U.S.A. have bought Zune but that as to queir (haci quentan to me, I must find out). And also that I write bad - disculpenme!"

By the way Cesar is there any news at all on a europe zune release because lately my creative zen has been acting up so I think I may need to replace it soon(also my bday is at end of May). I know you get asked this question a lot but it would be good to even have a general idea like summer/autumn.

the thread got locked 'cause the zunescene Mods and citizenships doesn't like jamaican passa passa dance music.

Zune will be released in Europe and Australia on May 1st.

I think he was joking.

Sorry to say but this is talentless crap (music). This looks like something Paris Hilton and her boyfriend (ex??) would cut up together.

btw, probably edited on a mac ;)

wow

rap still sucks

hadn't listened to it in a while

OH! This is what my friend was talking about! On Friday, my friend called me up and said, "Congratulations!" I didn't know what she was talking about so...there was a long moment of silence. After that, she said, "Your Zune's officially on a music video." I didn't believe her...but I stand [sit] corrected...

¿Por qué solamente latines?

Did they have to choose a brown zune? To be honest, a black or white would've gone much better.

This is funny because I hadn't heard this song before... instead I had only heard the R. Kelly/Twista remix.

It's amazing that a song is remixed so quickly these days.

Here's the mp3:

Aqui hay otro latino Cesar

creo que en www.zunetotal.com hay màs. Saludos.

No escribes muy bien el español amigo. ;)

This is why.. This is why.. its hot..

wow! this is kool. The song is really hot (except the lyrics.. which i've read some-where are bad).

Wanna c more music video's with Zune in it (with more partnerships may be), and hope these are part of the new marketing strategy.. tht will be anounced.

not a fan of the song....at all.

i wish zune was featured in a cooler song.

If nothing else, this video has taught me one thing: no matter how many ways you slice it, remix it, reengineer it, or in general change it, you can't make bad music good. and this is bad music.

Whoa...just read the little caption under the video. That's amazing! So...does that mean that some significant amount of the purchases could be coming from California? Because if so...it could be because of me...lol...jk.

Back onto English, that's pretty cool. I dont lsiten to his music but I like the fact that he supports the Zune.

Hey Cesar..thanks for the stickers!  You rock!

Yippee.  Lame co-marketing...

I'm just disappointed that Junior Reid and Baby Cham would have anything to do with this. Hopefully they were paid well.

Pero como puede ser, ¿acaso hay comerciales del Zune en la television de habla hispana? ¿O de cual otra manera se estará enterando la gente latina de este gran producto?

Ditto Lunaclown on the stickers, Cesar! That little hand-addressed Zune envelope made my day yesterday, and my rear windshield thanks you for the shiny new flair.

For the past day or so I haven't been able to access Zunester & Zuneguy.  Any word when those sites will be back?  thks!

This is the type of crowd that ms wants to be seen with to promote its zune, NOT COOL!

Hey John in S.Florida.

The sites are finally back online.  No updates anyway...

Holy crap, what a terrible song. I guess it fits the target audience, though.

Way to go MS!

rock music sucks too.

Aqui hay otro latino, Mexicano para ser exacto! Me compre uno para mi, otro para mi mama, otro para un amigo, y compre otro porque estaba en oferta en officemax($190). Dos primos mios tambien ya tienen un zune porque les dije.

In total, from the ones I've bought and influenced others to buy, there has been 8 zunes because of me(I also influenced these two kids in my Physics class). One has to spread the word, if no Zune ads are going to be shown to the public!

I guess I've added to the number of Zunes bought by Latinos(I prefer the term "Hispanic", but they're used interchangeably)as well as other people. I'd rather spread the word about the zune than about another "ipod" any day.

How 'bout MS making some connections with Latin Rock bands, such as Mana, Fobia, or Jaguares to promote the Zune in the Latin/ Latin American population? Either way, "Que viva el Zune!"

I can see how the Latinos are a part; Microsoft promotes diversity. As mentioned before, MSN messenger is the norm for chatting over in Mexico, no one knows exactly why, but MS promotion of social interaction might have to to with it. Apple has part of the Latino population, but it's usually those who have tried to conform to the typical Amercican social customs(like owning an ipod). Still, I believe MS has the dominant control and it'll stay that way.

Its not the music im worried about its the message!

Ditto Lunaclown and Telekinetyk. Thanks for the stickers, Cesar. :-)

Wow everybody got stickers. :(

For the most part, I'd agree with you. The overwhelming majority of music in any genre is garbage. It takes work and skill to find the gems... and a big marketing campaign for an also-ran digital audio player isn't likely to guide anyone in the right direction.

Of course, this is an art form we're talking about here... technical skill of the artist in question aside, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you like it, you like it.

I hate MIMS, too. Though I think its me (not liking this genre), probably not because of the quality of music.

Its difficult to pick a song/band which will appeal to everyone.

Nice product placement but it could have been placed in a more creative rap/r&b video.

I'm usually a fan of MIMS (and rap in general), but I gotta say I dislike this song. He speaks of "bring[ing] [rap's former prowess] back", but instead ironically does what he claims to be against, truly proving that he "can sell a mil doing nothing on the track."

Seriously, "I'm hot cuz I'm fly, you aint cuz you not"? Deep it ain't.

Don't get me wrong, it's great to see the Zune in a mainstream place, even if it is the equivilant of Britney Spears holding a can of Pepsi not because she truly enjoys the stuff, but because Pepsi's shelling out for her tour. I really hope you guys go for more and better underground artists. Right now, it's pretty transparent that the support only goes to artists in a piss-poor attempt to seem "street". The real problem is that you guys need to find people who have underground cred but are willing to sell out (a tough find).

My advice: go for bands/groups/artists that aren't very well known outside a fairly small group (not nationally known, but very well known locally). They'll be cheaper, and provide the Zune with some true presence.

I'd really like the Zune to get the respect it deserves, but the astroturfing isn't really helping.

I totally agree, I was just responding to the ignorant comments I commonly here that "rap music sucks." There are many forms of rap music not just what you see on BET/MTV...so it's not a fair comment. So do I think all rock music sucks? no, in fact I like most of it. Again i was just pointing out the inherent prejudice of such comments.

Breaks down when the Zune makes its appearance in the video.

Perhaps I spoke too soon. It's nice to see you guys trying at least. But please, the comment J made about "who puts Band of Horses on their MP3 player?" really underscored my problems with your marketing. And no offense C, but step up your game!

Cesar I'm really glad about the marketing in the MIMS video.   Like the song, hate the song, whatever. It's popular right now and that will spread the word about the Zune.

BTW I was in N.C. this last week and saw my first Zune ad.  It was cool.  Plus the trip I was on another guy had a Zune and we "shared" some songs (am I the only one that hates the term "squirt").  Anyways thanks again for the updates.

Chris

P.S. I want some Zune swag (stickers?)

In response to Adam K's first comment on Mims, I must say that, had the whole Microsoft & Mims campaign started last year when they were first in talks, it would've garnered a more positive response from the public of the connection between media device player and artist.

Mims' career pretty much was based on the strength of his "marketing" hustle via Digiwaxx. A few years back he had a track called "I Did You Wrong" which was distributed online and garnered significant spins in markets across the nation.

With his now infamous "This Is Why I'm Hot" track, it was promoted in the same way, however, a bigger return came of it resulting in him receiving much publicity and a deal with Microsoft.

Essentially, I'm saying that, had Microsoft rolled out with Mims earlier on prior to his single blowin up like it did, it would've seem like the partnership was more about discovering new artists and following them through their come up.

Hugh: As I stated in the first sentence of my comment, I like MIMS. I like his flow, I like his style, and I like I Did You Wrong (I think I still have the mixtape around somewhere). What I don't like, however, is the gassed attitude people have to a track that essentially says nothing. It's great that MS was able to capitalize on the man when he is garnering so much attention, but I worry this could be his one hit wonder. (yes, I've been watching a lot of VH1 lately...)

And let me separate the MIMS comment from the "trying to be indie" comment. I was referring more to the product placement aspect of the video in the MIMS situation, and the "look at us, we're indie" marketing aspect. I think one of the saddest things for me is that my joy in finally hearing an African American voice Zune's customer support menu tree is overshadowed by the sad realization that Microsoft would never do the same for their business line (you get what I'm saying).

Nice product placement there Zune team, but I have to say that little kid holding the Zune in the beginning of the video makes the Zune look twice as BIG!

Now can someone help me get this one hit wonder, no substance song off my brain? "This is why I'm Hot, you aint cause you Not" Damn!

Adam, I agree with you. Mims,  he's got a swagger that is likeable and what not. Sure, the song lacks substance and if more than anything is an anthem of sorts for people. Even A-Rod has it as his "at bat" intro blaring from the speakers in Yankee Stadium. Ironically enough, dude has been hot with his bat. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/22/sports/baseball/22curry.html?ex=1177992000&en=16c8f87f52751068&ei=5070

As you've stated, I too am afraid that this may be Mims' one hit and people will wonder. I understand the angle you're coming from in reference to the whole "look at us, we're indie" marketing. For all we know, once Mims' tour is all said and done, that'll be the last you hear of him and he'll be on the back burner.

Rumors that I've heard is that that's the case and that the link you provided to AllHipHop.com of the press release of Digiwaxx and Microsoft's "alliance" is something that was released by Digiwaxx and it just happened to have a blurb/quote from Zune's director of lifestyle marketing, Greg Matuskiewicz.

Could it be that Microsoft is distancing themselves from Mims?

totally vote for you, thanks for the post.

I wanted to research this subject and write a paper. Your post what a thousand words would not. Nice job.

The site very professional! Keep up the good work! Oh yes, one extra comment - maybe you could add more pictures too! So, good luck to your team!
