Check out the most recent edition of GQ - especially, the article "The Real Colbert Report"

(who's your daddy now, America?)

I especially found this question/answer interesting:

10. Current Favorite Song on iPod?
"(A) IT'S A ZUNE AND (B) IT'S EIGHTEEN EXQUISITELY SILENT MINUTES OF ERASED WATERGATE TAPE"

Mostly, I'm posting this because Stephen Colbert is one of the funniest people I can think of. And because I thought you'd be interested, dear blog reader.

le zune, it's french b***h

Awright - Colbert - - the coolest of the cool Zuners!!

Offtopic:

My Zune has been randomly shutting down a lot these days (I think after the 1.3 update - or could be the weather). To be precise - it rebooted itself more than 8 times in the past two days.

Thought I'd let you know and also would be interested to know if someone else has the same problem.

I think he was joking.

mine rebooted for the first time yesterday. I was waiting for the worst after it didn't turn on in 2 minutes...LOL

Yeah I think he is making fun of the Zune.  Still nice tie in since The Colbert Report is now on the (XBOX) Video Marketplace.

Check #7 ;)

He actually has a Zune, and isn't making fun (although I know as soon as I posted this, it wouldn't be long before someone would say that)

I think the second part of that is a joke (watergate ;)

Cesar,

So you talked to him personally? or where you just stalker close and saw him using it?

More reasons to watch his show. :)

Opps sorry. :(

"He actually has a Zune, and isn't making fun."

That's pretty cool. Even I assumed he was making fun of the Zune.

how many zune users are there? I dont mean to bash, this is a serious question

ipod...

I didn't get the impression he was joking.....is it incoceivable he could have a Zune? Maybe he refuses to be an iPod sheep. Go Colbert(i'll start watching his show now:)!

OK, so he may actually have a Zune.

After all, he's got it out for Apple, giving them the dreaded 'double wag of the finger':

I still think he's making fun of the Zune.

Of course, Microsoft probably sent Colbert a Zune - then Cesar could definitely say Colbert had one.

Colbert's comedy is often contrarian. You ask him what's on his iPod he says, "(A) It's a Walkman and (B) it's a mix-tape of..." But Colbert is intelligent, he knows Zune and erased Watergate silence is smart, witty and funny.

What's the long and short of this. Zune was mentioned in GQ by Colbert. However, like here, most people will think it's a joke. Lastly, GQ, even if wrong, assumed iPod.

Can't really win can you?

Thought he was making fun as well.

But if he is a Zune owner, well then more power to him.

did you all notice ipod's comment? I'd love for you to read it ;). ipod says: "ipod" awesome. Thanks, ipod!

Zune.

I only read 6 questions in GQ article, where is this 10th one mentioning the Zune?

I've actually been trying to figure out all the venom against the Zune. Seems like the bulk of it is just hate for Microsoft or disappointment with the unrealized potential of the device itself.

My wife loved mine so much that less then 6 weeks later we got her one to replace a fully functional Creative Labs Zen Nomad as an early anniversary present.

Off topic:

I used my Zune last night, but when I switched it on this morning, ALL my files (music and photos) were GONE!!! How could this have happened? I got my unit exactly two months ago.  I wonder if this has happened to anyone you know. Thanks.

This is Colbert we are talking about, folks. The man has probably received half a dozen iPods and at least one Zune in swag bags at celebrity gatherings.

You didn't think celebrities actually had to pay for their gadgets and toys, did you?!

You should pull this story down and not brag about it.  It's very clear that he is making fun of Zune.  This is Colbert!  He is a character and everything he says and does is a way of making fun of people that resemble his character in real life.  Colbert is saying that people like his character have a Zune.  Someone as square as Colbert would never have something as cool as an Ipod.  The marketing group should not be embracing this as cool or great.  That just supports the joke.  You know haw many conservatives watch his show and think he's real?

did you all notice ipod's comment? I'd love for you to read it ;). ipod says: "ipod" awesome. Thanks, ipod!

your welcome, ipod....

So why is the default response from the usuals that he is making a joke?

Pretty arrogant to assume that he MUST have an iPod. heck, he is free to own anything he wants.

Oh, and if he said he had an iPod, would that be considered a joke too?

Zuney Toon: Anything he says would be a joke. ;) It is Colbert we are talking about.

If he was joking, it's a pretty lame joke.  You have to realize that most people don't actually care about mp3 player rivalries.  Seriously folks....

Zuney Toon-  yes, but it would make less sense and it's not quite as funny.  Ipod is associated with hip and cool.  Zune is associated with nerds and geeks (Bill Gates)... and the super rich.  The super rich tend to be more conservative like Colbert.  Get it?  BTW, I hate Ipods and don't believe they make you cool like the rest of the world thinks.  But the joke still works when you  get the social commentary.

hey everyone, im back

For those that haven't read the article, not one question is answered seriously.

For Zuney Toon. If they asked Colbert what song was on his -MP3 player-, he probably would have answered "(A) it's MiniDisc player, and (B)..." If they said "What's one DVD you can watch again and again" He would have answered, "It's Flashdance and actually I prefer it in it's original form, on Beta."

He takes whatever is asked/whatever is expected and gives you a twist. It's his style.

The likely truth is that whether he owns an iPod, Zune or Zen. He still would have answered with the most known contrarian answer he could think of. Maybe he does own a Zune and maybe it's his regular listening device. Either way, he likely said Zune to be different, not to clarify.

Honestly, who cares what he listens to. I just think it's funny that Cesar quoted what he believes to be Colbert's one honest answer out of ten jokes.

I subcribe to GQ, and read the interview. Every answer he gave was just colbert being colbert (not to be taken serious, whether funny or not).

Are there any other celebrity (who is not a comedian) we know for sure owns a Zune?

At least he won't notice any skipping issues while listening to his 'eighteen exquisitely silent minutes of erased watergate tape.'

I was actually with Steven Colbert yesterday and he squirted me some John Denver. So I promise you that he does have a Zune and loves it.

Although this guy has good taste in MP3 players, he's still quite the commie in American clothing... >:(

-Zenek

He *needed* a Zune to listen to his prized Watergate tape. iPods have gapless playback.

Har, har!

Did you watch the Colbert Report last night? He listed "buying a Zune" as proof that one is completely insane.

Looks like he was being sarcastic about owning a Zune. Besides, he's shown his iPhone on the air several times.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be expanding the video store by 50%, adding 400 episodes, and one new

@Sam: You can have a Zune and an iPhone.  It's not unheard of.  My friend has one of each.
