So, when exactly can we expect a firmware update? Or let me guess, nobody knows, nobody knows, nobody knows. This is starting to get old real quick MS.

April 1st would be very cool to get news of an available firmware update. You can trick people by making think that it might be a joke, but really there will be an update. Sorry if I ruined it. If so, just delete this comment.

lol yeah that would be funny... not really. Frankly people ask me "hey how's the zune is it anygood?" and I'm like "yeah well it's got some things that have to be fixed and I'm still waiting for some upgrades like native divx/xvid". Come on MS if you're not goin to make divx/xvid native then atleast implement it in the zune software so it doesn't take me 2h to get a 40mn show on it(yeah I tried the hack... some say it's hit or miss, well it's always miss for me).

You guys don't have Xbox Live and Zune failover Clusters, so you can fail over to a backup while while updates are being applied, and then fail back once they are done?  

If any of you zuners got an ati card in your pc I'd download the latest version of the catalyst control center. The avivo package now works with my Xpress 200 (detected as Xpress1150) so maybe the X1000 series requirements have loosened up. It will convert any video that will play in wmp into a zune format, including divx. Its very quick.

Someone explain to me why the newly discoverd copy/move/delete flaw found in vista get a hotfix fast, but the zune skipping flaw doesnt get a fix which we have long awaiting for? forget all those extra bullet points like improved battery life for pausing on radio. give me a fix now.

Just called customer suppor, and they said the maintenance timeframe was 12-18 hours, which would put it back up at 7 pm PT at the latest.

There is no flaw in Vista an there is no fix.  Its a load of BS spread by MS haters.  It requires an audio file to be played on your computer with voice recognition on, while having your microphone close enough to get feedback from your speakers, and with you not noticing the commands being dictated out of your speakers.  There is hardly any chance of all those conditions being met.

I think thats the flaw you are talking about.

i know i should calm down and chill, i just cant wait for a fix.

Fyi, MajorNelson.com says the Maintenance Update is almost finished. They are still ironing out one issue before they turn everything back on.

WOW! Im not sure whether anyone else noticed this... but the delay in the firmware update is pretty close to a successful publicity stunt! I mean cmon... everyones talkin about it! :D.

On another note, I hope MS is working on something for future firmwares too... something exciting like the many features suggested by fellow zune bloggers!

The Zune fix isn't easy, apparently, or it would have been made a while ago.  The Zune isn't capable of decoding the DRM for the Zune Pass songs without slowing down other functions (thus causing the unresponsiveness and skipping).

Therefore, one of two things hopefully has been happening.  

1. Microsoft has been working on a new DRM and then converting its entire library (or another similar solution related to the DRM).

2. Microsoft has been developing a new firmware from scratch that is more efficient and will run smoothly on the Zune.

My Zune is getting very sluggish these days. Today it just stopped responding for about 30 seconds. Even the usual "Hold" tactic didn't work. I was able to reset it though. Anyone experiencing anything like this?
