That's a good thing to know!  I use it on my iPod all the time for when it freezes (and to access iPod Linux..... but Apple doesn't need to know about that....)

I thought that was to force the unit to fully shut down? You know, instead of having it in stand by mode? I guess it could also be considered a "reset" mode, but most people aren't aware that it is also the way to force the unit off. That's why when your Zune hasn't been turned on for atleast a day, you get the load screen, I assume.

One feature I think the zune is missing is a "now playing" list. I know there's the quick playlist, but it's faster to start playing something and then add to the now playing list. Plus, you don't have to go through menus to erase the now playing list, you just have to play something else.

I've been using this for some time.  It works well when my Zune inevitably freezes up from my constant ADHD level taxing of the processor.

Now if only it wouldn't freeze from constant activity... that would be nice.  

Albert - as far as i am aware holding the Play button turns the Zune off (or is that standby?) and the back-up thing is a reboot.

I agree about the now playing option.  If you keep hitting back it will eventually take you to now playing, but it would be cool to have an option in a, or even several menus.

Also the ability to shuffle an album - you go into albums and it has 'shuffle all' but there is no option to shuffle the tracks on an individual album.  I know there is a shuffle option in settings but it would be cool to be able to just pick an album and choose to listen in random order or not.  

You know if you switch the hold button right after you do the reset it turns it off. Thats a good way to save some actual batter life.

to make this clear because some still dont know. to put the player in stand by hold the play button. to turn off the zune the back button and down button are held down at the same time for maybe 5 secconds. this doesn't erase anything, and will save your battery. enjoy.

OK! Here's my problem... My Zune was loading and it froze just when the loading was done... It's heating up and well, to tell you the truth, it's just frozen. I've tried reseting it, but nothing... Can somebody PLEASE help  me! This is the first time something like that happens to my Zune.

I finished downloaded my music, pictures, and videos and i noticed my screen froze but my loading bar is still moving. i tried reseting it but it didn't work. i hit the back button too but that also didn't work!

My zune has been freezing a lot lately and it slows down like a computer. It takes a while for it to start playing again, also when I'm going to another song, the backlight won't activate immediately, and the same backlight problem but with the sound adjustment. I have dropped the Zune a few times, but this problem has not occurred until at least a week after the last dropping.

Also, today I was going to sync it as I normally do but my computer did not recognize my Zune. I was going through the steps to help it register the Zune and eventually my computer was reading the Zune but I did nothing. I thought that this was weird.

So, if an administrator could help me with the freezing glitches, then I will be thankful.

Although, I don't see how you could help with such a situation because I do not have a warranty on it.

I just got my zune a couple of weeks ago off of ebay. However it is now not working at all. Every time i plug it into the usb, it just flashes the "Zune" symbol. I have tried reseting it but nothing works. I am going to try and get the manufacturer warenty, but I am not shure if they will let me since i don't have the recite, and because i bought it off of ebay.

My ZUNE froze today for the first time. I had read about the "reset" but never had a good feeling about it. Mine finally came out of the sync screen by it's self. huh. I'll take it.

you're preachin' tto the chior. I'm on my second Zune, after sending the first back in hopes the second wouldn't keep freezing. No such luck. It seems like when i use the headphone jack to hook it up to a stereo it'll play for a while, then STOP. It freezes, restarts itself then starts over. Now it freezes on the logo, heats up and makes this humming sound. Back and up don't do squwat!

I have to wait out the battery-recharge-and try again. They should do a recall!

When my zune (yeah, I was dumb enough to buy one) is unpluged: I get a battery error and it turns of  (but it is charged). When it is pluged in : I get two icons, the low battery and the charging icon in and endless loop. One time when I called zune about a problem the guy told me that alot of people want to see some of these changes made.  He said the best thing is to go to the zune site and click "feedback" and tell them about it.  He told me that they actually do look at those for suggestions and the more something is mentioned the more they consider it.  I personally wanted a way to convert quicklists to actual playlists, a better system for organizing videos (like putting them into playlists) and I wanted more options in the center-button menu while playing a song.  (i.e.- "add to quick list" and "more from this artist" etc."

I'm having a hell of a time downloading my siongs onto the Zune.. No matter what I try it seems to transfer some and then locks up and does nothing, I have to unplug it aand it may transfer some again stops.. I never thought this was supposed to be that difficult?? I just got my zune like a week ago and when i turn my zune on without the charger, it shows the zune opening screen for just a second. When plugged in, it turns on just until the loading bar is finished. It only stays on when connected. Why can i do to fix this?

When the zune is loading hold the Back button at the same time as you press both the left side of the Zune Pad and the OK button in the middle of the Zune Pad. Continue to hold these buttons until your Zune device restarts and "Please wait" appears.

What you will have done is reset the zune and wipe the hard drive.  You need the zune software running, the zune will update and after naming the zune will re-load all of your content.  Will take some hours to sync all your stuff.

I have a zune that completely froze and locked everything out.  All that shows up is a plug in device looking thing inside the battery.  Is there any buttons to press and hold that will make it reset?  

My Zune (which I got for Christmas) is frozen with the low battery screen showing.  None of the options have worked in trying to get this to reboot.  Will be exchanging for a new one - if the problem still persists....will try another brand.

Not sure if anyone knows how but my zune is only playing one album at a time. Is there a way I can set it so say when it is at the last track of an album and I hit the next track button it'll just skip to the first track on the next album? All it does is let me play one album and when I skip the last track it brings me back to the start of said album.

Wow this is really a pain.  I have tried the reset as listed in other posts and now it is stuck on the 4th step...Clearing contents, please wait.  Has been there for 15 minutes.  The reason we tried to reset is because we turned it on and all the media files had dissappeared. Simple as that.  My son's Zune deleted everything once when he simply connected it to my computer.  

At any rate, I would appreciate some help.

I have the 30 gig Zune-- without the warranty, and my zune has been freezing starting today at random. I have never had a problem with my Zune, I've dropped it once lightly on the carpet partially (I had my earbuds plugged in that stopped it from fully falling)I turned off my Zune using the Back button and Down button, then turned it back on where it froze on a black screen. I pressed the Play/Pause button which brought me to the main screen where a popup informed me that it had to recover from an error by erasing all my content. I clicked "OK" and nothing happened. the reset works on my 80 gig and thank god for someone with that knowledge.  i nearly sht a brick when it froze a week after just having spent almost 300 american on the thing.  other than that i love the device and hate the software.  someone should hack i tunes to recognize zune devices.  xD lots of love to zune community

Is there a way to reformat the disk on the Zune (30GB)? Mine freezes, and I've done the reset/restore, but it still freezes. On other disk based systems, re-formatting (which marks bad spots on the disk) is a standard operation.

I have tried the following and it works to the point of deleting everything and me reinstalling the firmware, but at the next step it returns to the same problem: the initial load screen comes up and at the very last point it clicks and starts to reload again. First off, new zune owner, but not first time user with some advice for you guys. Email me at white.eagle.14(AT)gmail(dot)com with ANY questions and I'll try to get back to you.

For all of you with the message telling you to connect the zune to your computer in a never ending loop, even after performing the harddrive wipe shortcut, you most likely have a bad harddrive. This is more common on 30gb zunes as I've experienced (Friend has had TWO die, I'm on his second dead one with a new Hitatchi ATA-7 drive.) The toshiba MK3008GAL, the harddrive in the zune Classic/30 Is prone to failure (or they had a VERY large bad batch. ) And it results in this error message. The solution is a new ATA-6 or ATA-7 1.8" Compact harddrive (Any brand should work as long as it is a ZIF socket. ) Currently, my replacement drive is the Hitatch Travelstar C3K60 Slim 30gb (from a dead Creative zen vision W ) and it works like a charm :)

Also, to ANYONE who has dropped theres and now has this message, your hard drive most likely has A) Bad sectors B) A bad motor or C) Bad R/W heads, Resulting in either A) Sluggishness or failure to perform certain operations B) Failure to play certain songs, show album art, or function at all or C) Display the please connect to computer message (Cannot read firmware updates stored on harddrive, needs to recover). ----- If you get C) Your zune is Most likely not recoverable. Plug it in to the computer and go for it. If it doesn't work the first time, you better hope MS covers you under warranty. Alternatively, the harddrive I posted above is a working option, or maybe a zune with a bad screen on ebay for an HDD swap?

Hi all, I have a problem with my Zune 80 where it spontaneously died on me, and whenever I connect it to a charging device i get a faint battery symbol w/ a lightning bolt that fades away after about 3 seconds, if i leave it "charging" nothing happens, and i've tried completely discharging it but after a week nothing seems to work, what am i to do?

Is there any way to run scandisk on the Zune 80 hard drive without actually taking the drive out and putting it in an external enclosure?  I know I just have some bad sectors that a simple scandisk scan could almost certainly mark as bad, preventing the zune software from trying to write over the bad areas every time I try to sync.  I already have the player showing up in explorer, but since it is a portable device, the only option given is to format (none of the tools that show up with other drives, like scan for errors, defrag, etc).  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  

my zune has a blank screen and I am unable to get the backlight back up or use the back button on the Zune.   Basically it is frozen.  I thought I was resetting it by holding the middle buttion and the play button simultaneously but obviously I did something else to it.  Can anyone please help me?????

I was listening to music and all of the sudden it stopped playing.  When I took it out of my pocket it was on the home screen and I had to select the song in the playlist to get it to work again. Then about a minute later it stopped playing again.  I now have a black screen with the backlight constantly on.  I have tried to reset it and it does not work.  Any suggestions?

this is cut & pasted from a different message boar so i take no responsibility for it but im having the 'faint battery symbol' crises, im in the uk and i have no receipt cos it came off eBay...but im about to try it!

had the same exact problem as you did. It all started after v2.0 was launched. I went threw 6 30gig zunes. Now i have a 80gig zune. This is what i had to do.

1) Use unzoone to unistall the software.

2)Go into your c drive and make sure everything with zune is deleted.

3) go to microsoft.com and download .net framework 3.5

4)reinstall the software

5) Restore your zune device. for 80 gig(restart the zune then hold the play pause button,left arrow button,and the back button.) for 30 gig(hold middle,left,and back at the same time)

6) hook up your zune,reinstall the software,and let everything resync.

I know this is a very weird way of doing it,but i went though 6 zunes,all with that problem. And now since i did that it works now(knock on wood).

I talked to a zune support tech,and he said he did the exact same thing. he said his problem too all started with 2.0 hope this helps.

I have an 80gig zune which has been working fine since i got it new 2months ago. I left it on charge, then when i came to use it, it  had frozen ( 1st time). I looked the problem up on net, so i followed the instructions and did a restart, this gave me an error 5 screen, also frozen. So now i followed the advice given to restore zune device software ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927001/ ), now my zune is stuck on 'no3 please wait screen & will not switch off or respond at all.

So, I've had my 30g Zune for two year-ish. And since Monday it has been freezing, not playing, basically being a douche. Nothing will work. It doesn't restart. It doesn't turn off. I think it's dying. And I love my Zune. I don't want it too die.

So, I've had my 2nd gen 80 Gig zune for about a month now.  And the entire time I've had it, its battery life has been a little messed up.  I'm supposed to get at least 18-20 hours of playback with the wireless and the touch turned off.  And I do have them turned off.  And I'm only getting something like 8 hours before it just shuts off.  It will say I have half a battery left, and it will just shut off.  

I heard a rumor going around that there is a small software glitch with the 80's that makes them shut off, has anyone else heard about this??  If so, and you know how to fix it or what to do to get it fixed, please e-mail me!!

As per what a lot of people are seeing here, I've got a 30 Gig Zune that started endlessly looping through the firmware upgrade screen.  Prior to that it was playing music fine and then would just freeze for a few seconds randomely.  I eventually got it to reload the firmware by doing it OVER and OVER (probably 20 times).  It's clear, however, that the drive is going bad and it's a bit frustrating that there is no way to run scandisk on it.  I've ordered a new drive (20 gig for $29 shipped on eBay) so I'll swap that in, but for people with this problem, it doesn't seem that there is any real solution to fix it (make it work permanently and correctly) other than replacing the drive.

So its 2:15 AM right now in New York and I'm figuring out why my Zune is staring me dead in the face with thie "3, please wait, veuillez patienter, espera" screen. I've tried the key commands that I have seen on millions of forums so far and to my dismay, I get no sort of response from the device.

I could care less at this point if I lose my data on there but, I just want my Zune to work again.

Oh thankgoodness for this page. My zune was plugged in and charging today, and I was listening to it. Suddenly it said "Syncing" and stuck on that screen for quite a while, even though I hadn't lined anything up to sync. So, after about a half-hour, I unplugged it from my USB port, and it stuck on pause. I couldn't play any music. I would click on the "play all" for a certain artist, and the words would flash, but it wouldn't continue after that screen. I tried plugging it back in to finish it's syncing, but my computer wouldn't recognize it being plugged in anymore. I looked online and found this with the reset secret, and bam: it works again. okay my zune has a little lock symbol at the bottom of the screen, i checked to see if it was on hold but it isn't on hold at all, the lock symbol wont go away ive tried resetting it from the computer and the lock symbol stays there and i cant use it at all because none of the buttons will respond!

MY Zune wont turn on and its right after I rebooted it the way it says to above... I literally Reboot it then turned it off 5 minutes later, and now it wont turn on!!!!!! WHY!?!?!?!?! this is gay!

Wow this is really a pain.  I have tried the reset as listed in other posts and now it is stuck on the 4th step...Clearing contents, please wait.  That is the last thing it says and then blanck again. Could someone PLEASE HELP? I use this device to bring material to teach at school.

During playback on my 80 gig the time laps is stuck and won't countdown, so when I click back it goes to the previous song.  Also, sometimes the songs start off really slow, like when you turn down the speed on a turntable.  Any advice?

My Zune 80G never Froze up, never... I had it full all the way. After the new 3.0 firmware, it freezes when i change song. Basically its plays 3-whatever songs, then once i change song, boom. It stays on a screen right before showing the new artist album and doesn't respone. The only thing i have to do i restart it(back+up). I called zune tech and we walk through the reformat.  It stills freezez.  Im reformatting it againz.  I think its the firmware.  What do u think????

I completely agree with Ancient Rook. Ever since I downloaded the new 3.o firmware my zune takes forever to change from song to song. And recently it has been freezing on me. I to think it is the new 3.0 firmware.

I have a 30gb zune and recently, it fell down and it froze up. When i restarted the zune,it stayed on the logo and then it when to the number 5 saying to contact customer support. I wiped out the memory by holding the back button, left on the d-pad and the center button but when i got to the second step, the zune software throws a message saing that my zune doesnt have enough space AFTER I WIPED THE MEMORY. im going crazy here and i need some help fast, please!!!!!!!!!!!!

My  Zune is playing music, but the buttons are not working. All I can do is turn it on and off. Does anyone know what I should do?! This is the first time this has happened, and I'm so annoyed with Zune now!

So odd!  I tried all of the suggested things and it came back on by itself, out of the blue!  I had my Zune plugged into the FM Transmitter in the car and it froze, but I thought the battery was just dead.  But I charged it and it didn't turn on.  Like I said, though, it just came out of its hypnosis!

4. If you can get your computer and Zune program to recognize the Zune, then click on device>settings>sync options>erase all content. Then resync your Zune. That is the one that worked for me when my Zune started freezing up.

my old zune used to freeze but only like 1 month ago..before that it never froze..so i figured it was because it was old. expecting the 120gb to be better, it froze and i had to let the battery die and now it's working. this is what i always used to do with my 30gb zune.

I have a year-old Zune 30gb that has, overall, been great.  But today, it is displaying the boot-up screen ("zune" and logo with what appears to be a full progress bar at the bottom).  Does not respond to ANY buttons or combinations, just frozen.  Saw another post elsewhere with someone having exactly same issue with TWO 30s.  Suspect bug in latest software upgrade.  I'm going to have to wait for battery to die, I guess, then plug it in and see if it boots.

so i have the older zune the bigger one and i was charging it and once the bar got to the end it froze.  I tried the resetting trick and nothing works. is there anyway to fix it?

I also suffered the lockup where the reset combo didn`t work.  To resolve all I had to do was disconnect the battery, wait a minute, reconnect the battery, and turn it back on.  To remove the batter:

1. Gently pry our the small plastic housing where the connector enter the bottom of the Zune.  I used a small flathead scewdriver. DO NOT DAMAGE THE CONTACTS

2. Remove the two small phillips head screws

3. Gently separate the Zune case (I used the flathead screwdriver to get it started)

4. Push down the clip where the gold battery cable slips into the connector)

5. Slip the flat cable out, wait a minute, and reverse these steps to reconnect and reassemble.

Hope this helps.  It fixed mine.

Well, seeing that its new years eve and everyone is busy I would like to say BS. That me and mostly people with 30 gigs started to die (Frozen on load or charge screens, you cant fix this with the simple reset method. And most ironically is that MS would end the line of 30 gigs, when all our warranties would expire too. But thats not the point , rumors been going around that virus bombed most of the 30 gig owners or something that some peoples phone companies on on minute holds because of this bomb too. Same thing is happening all over today (12/31) on the 30GB model and Microsoft has admitted there's a problem with all the 30GB models.  Google "Zune freeze" and you'll see the MSNBS article.

Yep same thing happened to My 30G Zune, The controls don't work, pulggin into your computer dosn't work, Ect... There has been many News articals about it and this includes MSN, G4tech and many many others. I really hope MicroSoft gets on this becasue this isn't some simple lil $50 Walmart player.

I got my Zune as a present from my dad last year and I use it often when going to school. It hasn't given me any problem until now. This sucks!

Okay, so I'm not crazy and I didn't do something to my Zune.  So did something get triggered when the year changed at the international date line?  This could be nasty, since the units can't boot up to connect to the computer for firmware updates.  Can you say "EXCHANGE"?

Also would love to know if ANYONE is able to use their 30gb Zune today.  Of course, unless you have more than one, you probably aren't going to read THIS topic.

Had my 30 GB zune for a year now and have loved it, but it also froze when I updated this.  It's seriously unacceptable and sure makes me look like the loser after defending the zune (and microsoft) to my iPod (and apple) loving friends.

Hey Ya'll!

I have a Zune 30 Gb, original model.  Only disconnecting ALL power to the unit was able to help me reboot my Zune.  To do this, you must take it apart and physically unhook the battery from inside for a few seconds, the reconnect and reassemble.  If you want to wait for Microsoft to give you a 'fix', then fine.  But to go ahead and resolve the problem yourself and be back on track, I'd suggest taking it apart.  Do this only if you are competent with small electronics and feel comfortable doing so.  

Only recommended tools are a VERY small screwdrive set.  I'd be happy to answer any questions to those what have them about disassembly.  I'm no expert, only have suggestions based on my last 10 minutes or getting my Zune going again.

I also recommend that after rebooting your Zune from disconnecting the internal battery, that you DO NOT charge it by Computer USB until all software problems and other bugs have been addressed by Microsoft.  If their crappy software can't get to your Zune then it'll be safer from problems in the time being.  Cutting off all wireless modes probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

i had the same problem with the lock button on mine my nephew was over and used it to fall asleep with and the next morning it was locked and wouldnt come unlocked so i called tech support they told me 129 dollars to fix the lock button so i used a presicion small screw driver pryed it open and turned off the lock by the mirco switch but the case back on and now it works and i saved 129 dollars

You guys, this reset thingie usually works, but but this time something wrong with ALL Zune 30GB's around the entire world right now. It sems like all the Zunes froze when it turned Dec 31st (2008). O.O;;  Microsoft is working on it right now, and I guess all we can do is they fix it.  

I too have gotten my Zune 80 locked to the load screen.  The last thing of interest I did to my computer was to load the latest update to VISTA.  No reset or any buttons work.  Hope they come up with a fix.

I have a 30G Zune and it's stuck on the loading screen that I get when I start up my Zune. I've tried reset and nothing happened. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I held the Up on the pad and the BACK button at the same time. Held if for 5 seconds and I didn't get anything.

Well, same story with my 30.  What worked for me was the battery thing listed above.  But that was not all, following a healthy urination on the open device, at least the zune screen doesn't come back up.  Hmm,..stupid screen, take that!

Both my sons & my 30G locked up last night. I just contacted my other son out of state & my grandsons to see if theirs are too. I will post again if theirs are locked too. I bought all 5 ZUNES last year for Christmas so I hope this is just a fluke & is fixable but it is ODD that 2 locked up at the same time yesterday for the first time in the same household. Ours are hung up on the Zune boot up screen, will, not reset, have drained the battery & tried to recharge but nothing yet. It just goes back to the same zune start up screen & hangs. HELP!!!! the great Zune freeze of 2008-09 also affected my 1st-generation model.  I am not amused.  Microsoft is supposed to be the cutting edge of technology; this is not something that happens to such a company.  I hope MS does the right thing.

I opened my Zune up as instructed on Ytube and disconnected the battery and it worked! It was really easy.

30G stuck  frozen at the ZUNE logo and progress line, the back and upreset does not work the unit runs the battery down and will take a charge to try aga but so far no luck any other tips and suggestions.

My Zune was great until I downloaded the new update. When I was done, It Stayed on the screen with the Zune Logo and the Loading Bar at the bottom. I waited out the charge, and this morning charged it up again and it's still stuck on that screen and my PC won't recognize it as being plugged in HELP!!!!!! I just want my Zune back!

apparently Microsoft says this 30 gb "Zune 2K9" problem will work itself out by 12 noon 01/01/09 when the zunes internal drive clock changes over. I quote:"The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. That being the case, the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30-GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you're a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device."

My Zune froze today, for the first time.  I tried all the little "key tricks" to make it unfreeze and nothing has worked.  My computer isn't even picking it up when I plug it in.  I just went to turn it on, the little Zune symbol came on, the loading bar finished, and it just stuck that way.  HELP?!

My Zune is frozen and it is not working at all! I am mad! I can't believe this!

For all who do not know, DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY! Your warranty will be voided.

My Zune only froze once before. After draining and recharging the battery, it came back with the reboot process. Smooth sailing until I loaded the new software/firmware upgrade on 12/27. I put it on to charge post upgrade. Now, it's frozen with the logo screen and the progress bar at about 99%. This is maddening. I wonder had I not updated would this have happened? I passed up a shot at a good buy on the competition's model and now I am kicking myself...

I was charging my Zune on my pc on New Year's Eve and it became stuck on the sign on screen.  My Zune wouldn't take the reset which is done by holding down the back button and the up button on the center of the Zune, or by letting the battery drain all the way down and then recharging it.  I had to physically take out the battery or disconnect it which is extremely simple to do.  Don't worry there is a www.youtube.com video on it and it takes less then 1 minute to do.  Mine is back up and running fine!  The only thing is just be careful when you put the cover back on it and make sure you have the lock on'off button in the same position on the cover as on the Zune when you put it back together!  I have read that Zunes world wide have or were effect on the change of the year for some reason?  I also read that Zune charges you $129 for a service fee just for looking at it.

My 30g zune froze like everyone elses for 2k9 but now its working again. Although a new problem, it says 20g is used with NOTHING on my zune.... williamkherd@hotmail.com

80gb zune has frozen when i use my docking station.will not respond to remote or play sound through stereo.zune plays on hp but no docking funtions since yesterday.

my zune froze when i was listening to it,trying to fall asleep. i was so scared it was broken thanks for the help. my zune is perfect.

Still frozen followed all the tips still will not work today!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

If they are the 30gb models with the Y2K9 problem, you have to let them die completely (unplug them and let the battery drain completely).  Then recharge them and they should come back up normally once the battery is charged.  I actually used a usb charger instead of cabling to my PC just to make sure no sync actions occurred.  Mine has been working perfectly since I did this on the 1st.  None of the other tricks have anything to do with this particular problem.  A programmer forgot that there are 366 days in a leap year!

My 30GB Zune is still frozen.... even after following the suggested steps after Jan 1...

my zune just did the whole freezing thing on the loading screen. i was listening to is earlier and now a few hours later i went to turn it on, and it wouldnt so i locked it and unlocked it again. so it started to load. but froze, i let it drain. when i plugged it back in it charged alittle then turned on to the load screen and froze again. will it be on this screen until its completely charged and then go back to the normal screen or is it still froze? thankss =]

ok fellow zune heads...some one help me with this. my zune works completely fine. plays music..plays videos i kant still add music and all that. EXCEPT....it is permanently dim. my back light won't come on if i payed it to. my screen is DIM...very very dim. can someone please help. i just got this thing for christmas.

Hope someone can help...plz.. I have a 1st gen 30gig Zune and it stopped working on me... when i hook it to my computer it just blinks the Zune logo at me. The computer doesnt detect it and the Zune doesnt boot. But when i take it to my truck and hook it to the car adapter it boots and works just fine. It will say the battery is fully charged, but when i disconnect it the zune dies. I thought it was the battery at first so i replaced it and it still does it. I tried everything, i doubled and triple checked all my connections and they are all fine. The battery is good too. My zune froze up a long time ago so i just stopped messing with it for a while then recently i tried putting music on it again and it works now...well at least i hope

My Zune 80GB freezes up, won't play and other than the off button none work.  I turn it off and then back on I get a grey screen.  After a while of turning it back on I get the menu screen, but the music appears to be deleted.  When I re-input my music it appeared that the original music was still somewhere on the Zune due to the bytes.  I called MS and they told me to reboot, or send it in.  They offer a one year warranty.  Great their product, $230.00 is made to last for a year.  Looks like an Ipod in my future.  Health & happiness to all....  

I was watching a video on my zune and charging it at the same time, and i go to fast forward the video and it froze. I panicked. Googled what do i do if my zune freezes, and it got me here. So thanks.

My backlight no longer works on my 8 GB Zune that I just got for Christmas.  It has had minor problems with this since I got it, but it would always come back on within seconds.  Now it has stopped coming on altogether.  It's EXTREMELY frustrating.  I have tried the reset, but that has not worked, either.  Any other suggestions?

heres my problem i just bought a 30 i installed the software an deverything and so i then disconected it 30 min after charge like it said and now its frozen. Cant do a reboot turn on or anything. It has a solid charge/sync logo that remains on no matter what plugged into the pc or not. Any suggestions?

so im like a few of you here posting questions about a zune issue. ive searched alot of sites and forums and have found many people complaining about the same problem with no solutions posted. basically my 8gb zune has the black screen problem. i was charging it overnight through my computers usb and when i checked it in the morning it was off and none of the buttons work. when i hook it up to my computer it says that it is not recognized. none of the reset solutions work. im in iraq right now so i really dont want to send my zune out to microsoft so im not sure what to do. if someone has solved this problem or has any information about it please let me know. thank you very much.

someone help me...I fell asleep with my Zune on, and when i woke up, it was frozen. i tried to skip to the next song, but the song wouldn't play. i also pressed down and up, but now all i have is this grey screen...what to do?

My zune refuses to stay off. Even when I restart it or turn it off with back + down it still returns to the loading screen and turns back on. Has this happened to anyone else? Can it be fixed?

i've only just now come across the back/up reset method (which will hopefully work next time my zune freezes) but prior to today anytime it froze i just let it sit untouched for a day. after that i plugged it into the usb charger and it is as good as new. just wanted you guys to know that in case you hadn't tried it and worried that your zune would be frozen forever.

I just got a new computer and all my music/videos are lost. Is there anyway I can use my Zune to put those files on my new computer?

The pad on my Zune does not work so I cannot reset it.  Any suggestions on this???
