Zune On Your Car's Monitor

Zuneinsider reader (and fellow Microsoft staffer) Ben hooked his Zune up to his car's monitor and sent the video to our friends at on10. Check the video:

Cool. Do you have a cool Zune setup? Drop a comment.

So far I have only wired it into my Tahoe. I ended up buying an auxillary input that wired into the Tahoe's stock stereo, allowing me to plug the Zune in with the Minijack and getting all the Zune goodness through the stereo, without the horrible sounds I got when I tried using the MS FM adapter for the Zune.

I'm half considering cancelling my XM Subscription because I don't use it anymore now that I have my Zune.

My next step will be to mount the round dock in the car so I can just plug it in and go, right now i have to plug in the minijack and the power cable.

Good demo! It's like having the Home AV Kit in your car. Thanks Cesar

Hey Guys, there's a company who does just that, they make a product called IME.  You can check it out here on youtube to see how it works during the LA Zune Launch Party. http://youtube.com/watch?v=0Y7QNfrG26w

Also the companies website:  http://imedock.com/zune.htm

Check it out it's pretty cool.

Steven

Also check it on Zune's site.

That looks pretty cool.  I'm pretty excited about Microsoft and Ford's Sync with the voice recognition and cell phone connectivity.

Suggestion: This guy needs to smile a little!!!

Zune Questions:

1.) What are the various ways I can get to changing the volume when I am browing my pictures or music? In iPod, I would quickly go to "Now Playing" menu.

I know I could wait for the Album Art screen to appear and then change the volume. Any other way?

2.) I am browsing an album and also listening to one of its song. How can I know what song I am listening to in Zune? In iPod, song that is played has a speaker icon right.

Thanks,

Steven, the question I have to ask is, when will the IME dock be available? Until then it's useless!

*I'm an impatient bastard :) *

Steven

I hear ya Chris, I've been waiting on that IME since they announced it back in November.  I called them once and they said that it should be available end of Februrary early March.  Something about a remote control that's going to be included with the product and they're waiting on FCC approval or soemething like that.  Buy yeah man i hear ya i can't wait for that thing i want a hookup for my Zune so bad.  And i'm so tired of the damn iPod products and stuffing the iPod in the glovebox. I want my Zune front and Center.

Ben

The IME looks better than the regular zune dock but for a car I think its much worse for one big reason.  NO remote  If you want to use a zune in a car I think it would be stupid to use anything other than a dock, either the zune dock or the IME are good.  But a holder or something that you have to plug things into would be such a pita.

Ok I didn't read stevens post he says IME will have a remote. Its just never been pictured yet so who know what it looks like.

I Just didn't see a reason to wait till this comes out for a car dock.  I've had my dock in my E since I got my zune.  Plus I can change zunes and still guarantee fitment because the zune dock has swappable docking plates.

Dale

This looks awesome.  Thanks for sharing.  Is there any way to get the Zune to sync with Windows Media Center to sync my TV shows, similar to how the PMC's do it?

Internet Guy

I would much rather see something that hooks up through the D-usb cable and would retain your original radio controls. Like a cd changer hooks up.

qwerty

cool stuff.  I'm looking forward to the wireless extension of this... bluetooth or wi-fi.

by the way, I need to know, where did you get that Rockstar Table Tennis t-shirt?

Priyan

Hello Guys,

How does Zune reacts when it's conected to  12V power out of the car, wehn you turn off the igniation off.

1.Does the Zune puses?

2.Turn itself off?

3.Does it keep on plying, so that you have to manually turn of the Zune after tunring off the Engine?

Thank you for the comments.

I have had the Zune dock installed in my Volvo C70 for audio and video playback since January. What I can say about the long term use is that the plug is definitely getting loose (wiggles back and forth quite a bit, but no connection problems yet). Also the constant on/off of the car's ignition was probably not a tested scenario, so the dock does occasionally have issues and requires me to unplug and replug the sync cable connector on the back of the dock about once per 10 uses. All in all, the dock is great and far better than using the A/V cable (that is how my wife's car is set up), but there are some glitches stemming from this not being the intended use.

On car docks, I have a 2000 mercedes e320 and I don't see it listed in the compatibility check at imedock.com (and they don't reply to e-mails).  Any idea how to check compatibility?  Or whether the zune dock would work and, if so, where it's available?  The FM adapter is way too staticky!

Derek Cole

Any ideas on how you could get the image to show on the Zune and the car display at the same time. I am using it to play videos on head rest monitors in back seat.
