Apparently I Have a Palace Here

Greetings from Vegas Baby Vegas. I'm told I have a palace here.  And there's a street, too. So I wanted to check it out, maybe score some free stuff.

Alas, no luck. Instead I went to the Zune lounge, where I'm posted up, talking to people about Zune. I really enjoyed it. Some before and after pictures of the Zune lounge. On Saturday:

And today:

If you're here at CES, stop by! It's been a lot of fun - the response to Zune has been great among CES attendees.

And yes, I've seen the Mad Money video. Once again, an interesting perspective. To clear up any misconception, he doesn't hate Zune, he just doesn't believe that we'll be able to beat Apple. And once again, my only lament is the amount of swears/insults in the Youtube comments. And perhaps the lack of spellcheck.

Hey, this is a cool announcement that we made with Ford; check the video:

OMG Velorium

Funny how he talks about winners winning. Look at windows operating system compared to OS X. Market share. Need I say more?

micromarty

How come the Zune was barley mentioned in the Keynote?

Krull

Slightly off topic, but Slate has an article about Steve Jobs' stock scandal. read it <a href="http://www.slate.com/id/2157160">here</a>

Diego

Nothing will happen to Steve with regards to the stock "scandal".

Matt

It'll be interesting to see the iBoy's reaction if Steve announces the touch-screen iPod as is rumoured.  Apparently Apple stores have been receiving mystery boxes they aren't allowed to open until 6:30pm this evening (GMT).  If that's the case and they are there to replace existing video iPods, will the iBoys go off and replace teh iPod they bought last month or will they get rightfully pissed off because steve pulled another Macbook on them?

Personally think it's more likely to be an iPhone of some description rather than a new iPod, and for the sake of the iBoys I hope thats the case.  Still even if it is a new model to replace the one they just bought, I doubt anyone will criticise them for it - its not Microsoft and it's not cool to criticise the cool kid.

if it is a touch screen iPod, i think I'll still be buying the Zune unless Apple have done something radical with the interface and iTunes  its just a personal thing I know but I've really been turned off the click wheel and UI thing over the last few months and am looking for something else now.

Sorry for the length and know this is for the Zune, just thought I would rant an opinion and some unsubstantiated rumour! hehe

Matt

Oh I'm going to be cheeky here and post a link, let me know if i'm out of line.  There is a blog competition going on with Toshiba over here.  I was asked to take part and if i get the most votes I win a shiny new laptop with vista ultimate on it (see?  I put some MS context in! :p)

Anyway if anyone feels like clicking the vote button i'd be grateful:  (apologies if the link doesn't work, not sure if HTML is turned on! <a href = "http://www.lovetolead.info/ViewArticle/tabid/56/Default.aspx?entryid=42">">http://www.lovetolead.info/ViewArticle/tabid/56/Default.aspx?entryid=42"> this </a> is the link.

this is the url if the link doesn't work:  http://www.lovetolead.info/ViewArticle/tabid/56/Default.aspx?entryid=42

Apologies if this isn't allowed, just delete and let me know not to do it in the future!

Cheers

Matt

A good day not to have bought a Zune!

JC

I'm a Zune fan but man, not only has Apple threatened Zune but also your place in Mobile & Living Room markets!!!! And they drummed up huge press coverage over major media outlets!  Are you guys going to respond?..with superior product!  Where are your content & hardware  partners.  It was interesting to listen to Bill's keynote and not one mention of new content that will be available through the Microsoft ecosystem.  If you are serious about being in the entertainment space your ecosystem needs access to vast amounts of content.  Negiotate for that..pay for that!  On the hardware side, where is your Zune phone? And by the way, why would you make me buy a new smartphone to play Zune Marketplace content??  Where are your small and video form factor devices?  Where are your Media Extender partners and their announcements!

All I can say is, you brought this day onto yourselves.  Learn from it, be honest and renew your focus.  And please take Zune beyond its garage band image!  Thanks

Re: Ford Ad - Voiceover

Sounds like a bad movie trailer parody voice. Like that Crest or Colgate commercial about the lady keeping her teeth white. Only that was supposed to be a parody...

Best of CES Awards, And

With no major Zune announcements at CES, the Best of CES Award in MP3 and Portable Audio goes to:

SanDisk Sansa Connect

"Wireless connectivity isn't a brand-new feature for MP3 players (hello, Zune and Apple iPhone), but SanDisk takes connectivity in a different direction by allowing users to hop on to any open Wi-Fi connection to trade and to recommend songs from any distance. The Sansa Connect also offers a sleek design, a fun, user-friendly interface, and access to streaming Internet radio."

Where is Zune's flash player?

Chris

Only because the "Zunester" refuses to really address this issue.

Does the "Uninterrupted" in the Ford ad mean that when I drive my car the radio will skip and lock up every 2 to 3 songs.  Or will my car randomly shut off.  And if any of these things happen will Ford's response be "Just leave your Headlights on 24/7 and that will fix the probably".

Come on Zune team...For real I've just returned my second Zune for skipping issues. And all I get is "Hey guess what's coming"  I don't give a flying rip about that!  If you want to play in the MP3 market you need to come strong. And you haven't!!! Great potential for sure.  But where does potential get you if your always mired with issues.

As a marketing guy I can honestly say you guys are losing big!  I don't know if you think that all the negative stuff about the Zune is IPOD groupies drumming up bad press or not.  But in case you haven't noticed the press on the Zune has gone way down hill since November. Even those that want to like it are now dogging you (me included)

I've got a little quote that I use in the marketing world.  "You have to have both SHOW and GO...Because even with the slickest SHOW it's your GO that will win you long term growth"

That's alright though; keep talking about "Stevey and his Stock" or "The price point of the I-Phone" and while your doing that the Zune will fade into oblivion.  And will be noted in the history of MP3 players as an also ran.

Kyle

You guys should make zune adds more like this.  Notice they didn't just show a few clips of a guy using his sync from a distance.  And they actually showed what the product did instead of focusing on one totally useless feature.
