The internets have spoken and the reaction to Endless Cookie is mixed.

Gizmodo doesn't like it, but notes "The Zune is here for the long haul". Dr. Macenstein likes it, but notes "OK, so we all know the Zune is not quite the iPod killer some had predicted." Reactions on Digg are mixed.

And so I wanted to ask you, dear blog reader. What do *you* think about Endless Cookie?

I really liked the video.  Very great song with cool animation.  I like that Zune is using lots of "real" art instead of just the same branding over and over.

not my favorite spot the zune has released, but not too bad. i like the idea of the cookie/music bit, if only more people actually understood what it was trying to convey...

Cute video.

Bad advertisement.

I can't say I really get the EC spot. I like the birds.

It is a bit too abstract for someone who doesn't know about the Zune. I still say that the Ballad of the Lion and Gazelle is THE best ad that you guys have. If you could just do something like that and take out the parts where the lion eats the gazelle's limbs!

I like the video, but I don't think it's a good ad.

I like the video cause to me it shows how ever one is trying to take away the spirit of the zune but no matter how hard they try the zune just never fades. Thats what i think.

It rocks!  I like that it goes beyond the Zune itself into a general good message about sharing.  Everyone can instantly get it even though people might not get the Zune-context.

One thing people need to remember, these bits aren't really "ads" per say as people giving their take on the the Zune-sharing concept, at least that's what I remember.  Actually, even if this *was* a TV spot I think it would work.  It's weird enough to stick in your mind, it's message is obvious enough even teens can understand, and it leaves you with "Zune" and wondering, "what does sharing have to do with this Zune-thing?  What's that?  Anyone here know what a Zune is?"

I download the best of these onto my Zune to show my friends, just because they're funny/weird.  I love the varity, you can only see so many silhouetted people dancing before you start wanting something different.

I agree with Sean, its a good hint to critics and fanboys that Zune aint going nowhere! It can only improve and get more popular, they have the money to keep it afloat. We needed someone to free people from the iReligion.

I don't like some other "mild" Zune videos, but the endless cookies is nice. It has its way and feeling.

I still vote as No1 the two burning birds! They fit your new background better ;)

Damn your marketing sucks!  Just make a commercial that tells about the product and what it does instead of leaving people guessing while trying to create some abstract work of art.

Your old commercials hardly showed the zune.  This one doesn't show it at all!  Most people I know don't know about the zune or they've seen the commercials and have no clue what it does.

The ability to play videos, fm radio, and the UI aren't shown once in any of your commercials!

Kyle:

Most Ads these days don't talk about the product, or sometimes even show it. The whole point of an advertisement is to hook the potential customer in, not bore them with all the specs of a product. Look at pretty much any apple ad(besides the mac v. pc ones). They started with the whole woman throwing a hammer at a huge tv. Then they did the whole Think different campaign and now all of the iPod ads are just people dancing around with an iPod. I would say about 60% of ads on tv don't talk at all about the product. Most people that would need to buy an mp3 player know what a zune is already.

I'm sorry to say but your marketing does suck. You guys need to give up with these quirky web videos and move on to some real advertising. The message is lost in this crap and no one has a clue what the Zune is. You really need to turn this around and get some in your face this is what we are and this is what we do ads or the Zune is a flop. I'm alone at the social with my Zune and no Zune users around us.No one even understands what it does yet and the Holiday Season is all but lost. These ads have cost you lots of money and lost you lots of momentum. Give it up and move on. Put the player on television and show America what it does.

I really like the ad to be honest, I don't know about the mixed responses but being the sort I am, if I saw that add and didn't know what Zune was, I would go find out the next day on the net or at my earliest convenience.  I'm glad it's not one of the 'cool kids' ads you staretd with, I had enough of the Beautiful People ads from Apple without you joining in!

Quality add, though personally I think I would prefer the endless ginger bread man ;)

Honestly, that commercial is WAY better than iPod...the strength of it is in the drawing/graphics/whateveryouwannacallit

Its great, i love it, and it makes me want to make cookies and CDs and give them to everyone.

if your going to advertise the zune you might want to say what the product is and at least show it. no one knows what a zune is from a bunch of cookies.
