Out tomorrow (no posts)

I haven't had a day off in a while (including weekends), so I'm taking tomorrow off. Don't worry, I've got you covered: folks on the Zune team will jump in and answer (some) of your questions. And for those visionary types, I'd like to know where you see the industry in five years, you know, the "next big thing" comment in this post.

Zune owning? haha. Well, I see downloadable content really huge in everything. Music, movies even games. People want stuff and they want it now.

BTW, I made ya a wallpaper for your zune!

Scenarios or experiences I like...

1)I walk into a store and see a Kiosk, which I could then walk up to and have new music and albums released that day/week loaded onto my device.

2)Im at a concert or other live event (sporting event, trade show) and upon walking in, my zune is sent information like what song is playing, and I can get exclusive tracks.  If I'm at a football game, I get up to the minute stats and replays while my music plays in the background during halftime.

3)My idea of connected entertainment allows me to see my friends on my device through some type of friends list wherever they are, show me what they're playing and I can interact with them, send them playlists, etc.

Robin

Well, you did ask, so...

The Zune in 5 years should have:

1) Full wireless interoperability between Zunes and anything else wi-fi - ie, no more USB leads. This would include cellular as well, so it would also be a phone.

2) Inductive charging pad (like an electric toothbrush charger). Just place the Zune on it and it charges.

3) Next generation of Windows Vista as the Zune OS with a touch screen or slide out keyboard. Now it's a pocket PC and a phone as well as a media player.

4) Infra red transmitter so I can use it to operate my TV, DVD player and so on too.

5) A camera for video and still picture taking - inc. built-in microphone.

6) TV tuner as well as FM.

7) Cellular and/or satellite reception to provide navigation ability.

All in the one device :)

In 5 years, I'd like to see the ability to easily take a HD recording and watch it anywhere. I want to be able to download shows from the networks, free of cost, and watch them on my Zune, Xbox 360, 50" Plasma, a regular Tube TV, my laptop, my cell phone.

Can you do most of that now? Yes, but it needs to be easy. I've spent 8 hours since I got my zune just trying to get video converted to fit on the device. I'm a darn developer, if it's not easy to do for me I'd hate to be a "Regular" person.

I just noticed that the "moodbot" videos on zune-arts.net were corrupted (both the mov and wmv). I was wondering who could fix that. I like all these little commercials.

(1)Zune or Zune Software should have the function to convert DVD, AVI, MPEG, RMVB, ASF etc.to Zune

(2)with Wi-Fi connect to PC, XBOX

I'd like GPS built in so I can locate songs by where I heard them.

Also, I'd like the software to track each time a track is played or skipped, not just the most recent. I'd like to be able to search by calendar and find exactly what I played (and skipped) on any given day.

I'd like the Zune to track and identify known friends in the vicinity of my Zune and adjust my playlist based on those around me (so's they don't catch me listening to showtunes or something. A man's got to keep his cred, dig?).

I'd like my Zune to identify hot chicks and use the built in GPS to locate them.

And I'd like a leather pouch.

In addition to my previous lengthy post I also would like to see development of a few new content partnerships.  The two I have in mind is MediaBay.com and Zinio.com.  I only mention MediaBay because Microsoft has invested in them and at the same time sold their share of Audible.com.  The audio book provider would be a natural fit for the existing Zune Portable.  And the e-magazine would be a great fit for the Zune eBook device I mentioned in my previous post.

Just got my Zune and it's AWESOME!!!!!! Thanks for making such a good gadget!!!!!!

Integrated mic + VOIP + P2P = 21st century CB!

That's a big 10-4!

Changeable Double shots:

Here's how it would work, instead of the colored plastic used for the doubleshot, a strip of fiber optic plastic would be used. There would be an LED (or two) to provide the color on the fiber optic strip. In the Zune menu there would be an option to change the color of the doubleshot. Also, since LEDs are very efficient, the battery life wouldn't suffer.

Who da punk

I sincerely hope Zune develops strategic relationships with key customers and is recognized for its ability to deliver services of superior value. This competitive advantage will be achieved through continued focus on core competencies, management attention to the development of operations and process management excellence in all parts of business, the identification and application of best processes, and continued attention to direct and indirect cost management. The focus on core competencies will promote the concentration of knowledge in select areas consistent with the tenets of Zune's strategic plan. Management's attention to operations and process management excellence in all business areas will be achieved through the continued expansion of management and technical staff, as well as through consistent application of corporate quality programs such as benchmarking and continuous improvement, leading to the establishment of Zune's superior business processes in each core competency. Finally, continued attention to direct and indirect cost management will enable Zune to offer customers a superior, value-added package of high-quality service at a competitive price.

Know what I'm sayin'?

What are the projected sales amounts?

What is Zune financials?

What's the estimated intial investment amount?

What are the projected cash flows and over how many years?

Where can I find and review this information

This post is somewhat offtopic I guess, but I just thought I'd make my post of one change that should be made in the Zune software.

Currently in creating a new playlist with the edit pane on the right side its made to just drag the tracks over and once you are done dragging everything over you save and can listen to the playlist. The problem with this is I know most of us in creating playlists, while working on them we will start playing the first song, add the next, add another, and another and as we are doing this the music should continue playing down the new playlist as it is still in the edit pane. This way it is easy to get a feel for how the playlist is going.

This is not how it works currently though, if you double click a song on a new playlist in the edit pane to start listening, it just stops after that single song, you have to go and click the next song to start the music again.

It should work basically just like the edit pane in WMP11, last I checked wmp handles this action properly.

So there it is, a small feature that would make creating playlists much more enjoyable. Yay!

SorryBut

As Judge Judy recently pointed out -grin- you only have one chance to make a good first impression. By releasing an immature/incomplete product/product line/system, MS may have fatally damaged the Zune brand name. MS played right into the hands of the iPod Fanboy Media, and gave them legitimate reasons to complain. If MS doesn't do something dramatic, and fast, Zune will probably go the way of Microsoft Bob. This, from an anything-but-iPod person.

Franco

SorryBut, thats what they said about the X-box...the Zune is a good device and has got off to a far start. iFanboys are just panicking thats why they bash it.

Franco

Hey Zuneinsider....any updates on the number of sales racke up so far on the Zune?

Rik

Hey Cesar,

Have you seen the "review" of the Zune that CNN did. (There's a reason I put review in quotation marks)

It ended up as a Apple love-fest, and the New York Times guy was terrible.

Check out the video on Gizmodo:

http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/portable-media/cnn-hates-on-the-microsoft-zune-praises-the-ipod-214936.php

Nothing make you say 'ouch' like when you get a bunch of amateurs in a room talking about something they don't understand.

damien

Hey, C.

Ever heard of this?

I would first like it to shrink a lot and screen as much space as possible.. 2. video would become as important as music .. Connecting to the internet and access all the videos/music is one thing I'm contemplating .. 3. ZunePhone.. Try This:

The screen occupies the whole of one side and controls on the back .. The screen can be touch screen enabled if you want to see what you are operating .. I'm currently in India and we dont get Zune here but I'm looking forward to seeing it here.. esp a zPhone
