Will it be Audible compatible?  If not at launch, when?  There's a huge segment of users using their players for books.

Lol, just went to Circuit City and Best Buy to look at the Zune displays last night...

They were so locked down in multiple anti-theft cradles/displays that I couldn't get an idea of how heavy they were, how big, what it felt like in your palm, what the little thing is on the back for your thumb...

Oh an every time I clicked the button on the right side I got a little message that looked something like the PDiddy "press play" icon.

Not a positive experience.

Will it have password protection, like the iPod?

hello

what does he zune package includes?

cuz the package costs 250$ and every necessery accessory costs arround 30-50$

alot of money...

The zune software wont run right for me, it wont add any music, it freezes all the time, and after I have to end the program, it never runs again until restart.

I have a brand new computer, so I don't see why it wouldn't run on mine.

Still no release dates for Canada. Vexing. I really would like to get a new mp3 player for Christmas, and whilst I would prefer a Zune... man  I don't want to wait till who knows when.

I haven't seen any reviews on how well the zune works when hooked up to a television (a link to any review would also be nice)...what is the video quality and what kind of interface does it have on the tv screen? I know the video is 320 x 240 but the ipod video is unwatchable on a television, and it really shouldn't be.

I have a huge collection of MP3s I ripped from my CDs using LAME VBR (variable bit rate) Extreme.  The sampling rate may be too high for Zune.  Is there someway to upload a couple of MP3 to be tested before I buy a Zune?

Ok, now i have a ton of podcasts, so my question is will there be any podcast support? how can i manage them all? please dont say playlists....

Cesar -

Three questions for you:

1. Does the Zune device support gapless playback?

2. In an earlier post, you indicated battery life of 14 hours with wi-fi off using 128KPS non-drm wma files. What is the battery life estimate using the the drm 192KPS files from the Zune Marketplace subscription service?

3. When do you anticipate adding podcasting support to the device and the Zunemarketplace?

Thanks. Dan

Can we share videos with the zune out of the box?  If not, will there be an update down the road to allow this?

Just wanted to comment on how cool the Zune marketplace is. I really like that you can watch videos in the top right ( now playing list ) while still organizing your library.

If I ripped a custom cd ( hypothetically to unstrip the fairplay drm )

is there any way to separate the songs and get the album art for them?

it only gives me the option to make an album, but I would like to be able to separate them just like all my other songs.

thanks in advance,

-Woody

hey i think i remember reading at one point that the wireless feature would allow now only transfer of music, but *streaming* of music as well to other zunes.  did i dream this?  or is this a feature to be added later?  i can't find any info now on this at all, and can't even find the original reference.

1) Does it work with Windows Media Player?

2) Will Customs slap me on the wrist if I bring one home to the UK after I visit Pittsburgh in january?

3) Uk launch date? (like you weren't expecting that one!lol)

4) Does it work with Media Player?

Basically all i need to know is will it work if I buy one and bring it home to the UK?  The marketplace and stuff I can wait for if the device works. Come one Cesar, I promise a cool pic for your blog next week if you gimme an answer! hehe

Will it work with WMP10?  No version of WMP11 works for me and the Zune software certainly looks like it is WMP11-based.  That scares me.  There is something about my system that brings WMP11 to its knees.  I don't know if it is the volume of my collection (28,000 songs, 2,ooo videos), the size (about 450GB, all tunes are WMA Lossless), or the fact that the entire mess is on a remote server that's killing it but something is

Hey! I live in Greece. If i buy one from ebay.com (they said they can send me one), will it work in Europe (especially in Greece) or i will have problems using it? When The zune will be available for europe customers?

Thanks :)

software issss sooo pretttyyyy *________*

Can the Zune reverse sync?

Will i be able to send mp3's from zune to zune. with out the 3 plays or 3 days?

Will Zune work as a removable storage device?

what the hell is a Zune? and why do i need one?

Heres my questions - in case my 'other' post is deleted.

1) When is the UK release date?

2) When will MS saying ANYTHING about a possible release date - even if they say 1st Quarter '07 thats better than nothing.

3) If I import one from America (im going there for a few months) - then will it work in the UK?

4) If I import one will I be able to use the marketplace? - or will I require a US credit/card to make purchases.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE more info on UK release - otherwise MS are going to have a load more people just buy an iPOD for xmas. At least if we have info then we 'may' hang on !!

Also some answers to the questions in this thread would be good. Whats the point in asking for questions if there are no answers?

What about a 60gb version?

I am french and I really want to buy a Zune but how many time will I need to wait to find it in France. I read not unil 2008, it's frustrating.

Hey Zune Insider.  I tried to win a zune over at Crunch Gear and it appears i've got the second runner-up position.  i was wondering if you kind folks would head over and have a look and see which you guys think should win.

http://crunchgear.com/2006/11/13/zune-beggars-can-be-chosers/

my submission can be seen here http://www.sixten80.com/images/zuneprettyplease.jpg

throw up some comments if you like my begging and groveling better. :(

In addition to its portable Music capabilities I want to know more about the following:

1. Is Zune capatible/integrated with XP Media Center?  I want the ability to centralize my media content and purchase/playback through my Media Extenders (XBox360, Linksys) located in other areas of our house.

2. With its wireless capabilities I am wondering if the Zune can act like a Media Extender when plugged into a Dock (connected to TV/Stereo)?

3. Can I use the portable Zune to watch LiveTV streamed from my Media Center PC?

Look forward your feedback

I know the zune can play itunes format but will it be able to play itunes video? i dont know if it is different, but i wanted to know if i can watch all those tv shows i bought on my zune

Is podcasting in the future for Zune/Media Player?

I subscribe to a few and really do not want to do this manually...

I wont buy it

Will we be seeing the Zune get Audible and Podcosting support soon?

Will we be seeing the 360 video marketplace become part of the zune marketplace so we can purchase it once and watch it on both units?

Will the Zune marketplace make it onto the 360 so that we can listen to music on our 360 via our ZunePass?

Will their be WIFI Syncing?

Will we see a store via wifi without computer?

What codecs are intended for the zune in the future? Ogg Vorbis? Divx?

FLV Support for grabbing some soapbox movies on our zune???

Come on give us answers to these questions everyone wants to know!

Will the Zune software work on XP x64?

Will buying a Zune give me 'street cred'?

Will there ever be a Macintosh Zune client?

please please please cesar can you give those of us who dont live in usa some info on even a rough estimate of release outside u.s. (especially uk and ireland). also like chris said flv support would be great as it would cut out the having to convert videos from youtube into wmv. thankyou, also i think you should be moderating the other place for questions from people who have zunes because a couple of assholes are ruining it.

Will the zune ever have a firmware update were say i was in my room and wanted to by a song from the marketplace but directly from my zune from my wireless network at home. Would that be somthing we can look to in the future of firmware updates?

is is compatible with an apple? do you need marketplace to play you songs or can you use itunes?

Hey guys. Does anybody here me? Is anybody home? Where are the answers?

what if the mp3 track has no album art?

-Josh

Does anyone know where the free queens of the stone age show is tonight in NYC?

Will the Zune software run  on Windows XP x64 edition?

So a lot of these questions I've already posted about/answered. here's the rundown. Back from the launch event. I'm going to post a recap on the site tomorrow. So, going through the questions:

We haven't announced a launch date for countries outside the U.S. (in re: the question "when is it coming to (my country here).

Not audible compatible at launch. It's an interesting idea.  As for the question "when will zune have *this* feature or that feature" the answer will have to be "stay tuned"

If the track doesn't have album art, the zune sofware will go up and d/l it for you (when it's available). if not found, then it'll drop a generic but cool image

"<Will the zune ever have a firmware update were say i was in my room and wanted to by a song from the marketplace but directly from my zune from my wireless network at home>" it's definitely something we're looking into. putting wireless in every device means that it's updatable through firmware updates.

yair - see previous post I made on that

codec support go here: http://www.zune.net/en-US/meetzune/

all songs sent have the 3 day 3 play limit.

already talked about podcasts (see previous post)

Ok, gotta go - more answers later.

when do the T.I.free concert end?

I don't have all the answers guys. I'm just looking more to centralize the questions for answering in the next few days. please be patient. I'm just one guy working on this and there are 1000s of you.

Does the Zune software automatically convert video files to work on the Zune? Or can you only use .WMV? I'm obviously referring to non-DRM files.

thanks for even trying to answer  thousand questions and thats great about the download song from zune.

What's the warranty on the Zune device? I read in a couple of places that it's only 6 months, but I can't believe that.

"already talked about podcasts (see previous post)"

So podcast(or whatever you want to call them) isn't on the Zune or Zune software. I can find your comment relating to podcast but that is vague and offers no real detail and no indication of future directions much like the Media Player team answers. Podcasts and podcast management are the thing that a leading me more and more towards buying an ipod.

i think it plays your podcast from iTunes when you get your zune software

Will there ever be a feature where one can order music though a stripped-down version of the Zune Marketplace while sitting in a Wi-Fi hot spot?

so we don't spend a lot of time talking about next releases (you may have gotten that). Some questions I can't/won't answer. IE, if you ask me "please tell me the entire feature set for Zune version 2.0" I won't answer that. "please tell me your global launch strategy, including release dates, prices for every major market" again, won't answer. "please announce publicly when you'll have this or that feature. . . " Ok, you get the picture.

I actually listen to podcasts on my Zune device all the time. there's no pod-catcher client in the software, but I just use a third party. it's a big hot button for people here, and definitely something we're looking into.

Sorry about the last question.  It's redundant.  But nevertheless, good luck tomorrow at the launch.  Even  if I never buy a Zune, I a gotta hand it to you guys for trying to create a fully integrated alternative to the Apple iPod.  That takes hard work and I respect hard work.  Again, good luck.

Are there any comments not faked?

Come on, all this questions are faked...

nope. all questions real - cesar

When will Australia see the Zune? If I chose to import one from the states will there be any problems that I could expect?

I dont understand the subscription service: When you dowload music will you be able to burn it to a cd? If your subcription runs out will you be able to keep the songs that are already on your zune or will they be deleted when you connect your zune to the computer?

Why Microsoft comes to the music market now, I think that it will be very diffucult for you to fight against the iPod (the 6th generation is on the pipe).

Do you need an intern at the Zune division next summer (from june to august 2007) ?

See you

Antoine

Microsoft Student Partner

has anyone ordered or imported one yet to Europe/UK??

does it work over this side of the pond?

I was all up for MS & Zune till I read how ridiculous this was...

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,125772-page,1/article.html

arnt you embarresed to work for one of the largest companies in the world - and yet they still screw things up ... why reinvent the wheel (i.e. currency)

I'm making a new rule. Effective today, I'm only answering comments with correctly spelled words. ;)

As for Microsoft Points, and the thinking behind it, it's actually simple. So, silly iFanboy website rants and conspiracy theories aside, here goes:

Microsoft Points make it so that people can make purchases online without a credit card. think of a pre-paid phone card. you just have credits in your account and spend against. and it works with other microsoft properties (Xbox Live Marketplace for example). I think the rationale w/ 79 points equaling about 99 cents is to not make points too U.S. centric. (Sure, Zune is only in the U.S. but you can use Microsoft points in Europe, asia, etc). Ok?

Any word on support for Windows XP x64? I think that it is very important that you support the operating system that many of your developers and high end users use.

I too would like to know about Zune and Media Center Edition integration. Can MCE play tracks from Zune Marketplace? If you have a Zune Pass is there a way to browse and play music with the remote? Can I sync the zune with the MCE interface? I consider MCE integration a big deal and something the ipod doesn't offer. Thanks for any info.

I don't know on that steve. let me find out and get back. might be tricky b/c everyone's out at the launch party tonight. - cesar

Thanks Ceasar

How is using a 1 to 1 conversion US centric?

Are you ever going to let me transfer my music from your PlaysForSure format that I trusted Microsoft on? Cause now they have a new better player and I'm stuck with $100s in useless music or should I stick with my Zen?

What about all the other criticisms at gotzuned.com

"I'm making a new rule. Effective today, I'm only answering comments with correctly spelled words. ;)"

So in other words you are saying post using Firefox 2.0 ? ;)

Ok well this is the deciding thing for me about getting a Zune. I need to know if you will be able to play Zune songs (bought from the Zune online store) btw, this is the subscription songs, on another player as in Windows Media player...or tunebite but ya if anyone knows the answer i would love an email or post email= AlexnBryan@gmail.com

I haven't heard anything about Zune's equalizer.  Does it have presets?  If so, how many?  Is there a customizable EQ?  When you do software updates from microsoft, is it possible to download more presets?

anyone else notice admin didnt answer a very telling question?

XBL Marketplace is getting video and missing music....

Zune Marketplace is getting music and missing video....

Both will have a pay to own motif for their items (as well as the zunepass for music)

I wonder if this is just a temporary thing that they arent announcing or if its not gonna happen... i mean will we finally see XBL and ZUNE's marketplaces coexist and work together, i mean if im on my 360 and i purchase a few episodes of scrubs or numb3rs can i go on my pc on zune marketplace and download that video also eventually since i "own it"????? And perhaps since the zune and 360 have tight integration move a tv show from my 360 to my zune so i can watch it on the road?

And then theirs the flipside... have a zunepass and be able to stream a bunch of music right on my 360 via the music tab and my zunepass account... come on! That'd be frigging WICKED!

Can't everyone see how the zune marketplace and xbl marketplace deserve to be merged atleast on their backends

Kyle: They have already said that the entire firmware on the unit is upgradeable so yes additional presets are possible just like additonal codecs and future store etc if they can figure out how best to implement them... as for what the zune comes with im not sure... im broke  and cant get one yet. Will post a review on my site detailing all the innards once i can afford one

I would just like to ask for those of you who have had a look for the zune, "Does Zune support chinese language like showing chinese name of the song, not the language of the UI?"

Many Thanks

Does ZUNE have E-book reading capabilities?

if so

what ebook reader will work?

text? Html? Adobe reader? Microsoft reader?

also if it does have e-book reading capabilites

can you play music while reading a document?

thank you!

As I mentioned somewhere else...do you guys plan on putting a Zune that's BIGGER than 30g? I could fill that in a heartbeat. If so, i'd rather give you guys a try than buy an 80g pod.

Lol!  I love iFanboys, they seem to live int eh 80s and still believe that Apple products are the perfect creations of a righteous band of Techno-Hippies.  It's like arguing with religious fanatics 'But the casing cracks on iBooks' 'It's meant to, it's a cool new feature.  'The casing discolours too', 'yeah isn't it cool how it changes colour with your mood?!'.  'iTunes 7 broke the only thing that it did well - podcasts, and you are tied down to a pitiful music format from the music store'.  'Yeah but you can buy that pitiful format with one click!'.

And the link to the PC world 25 worst products of all time?  I found Windows ME, which I think everyone can agree was awful - but that's how long ago?  And IE6, I'm assuming they are talking about the earlier releases but even so, that was what to do with Zune exactly?

I saw and Apple Mac portable in that list, does that now mean the iPod sucks too?

E-Book reader would be a quality addition, think we'll have to wait on that one though.

Soooooooo, Cesar.  Does it work with Media Player? ;)

Oh yeah! Let's not forget the Apple Pippin.  That was pure genius, over priced and under functional....now where have i seen that before?......

My questions are as follows:

I've downloaded a lot of music through Napster - can I sync these files to Zune with ease??

Also, I have a Portable media Center (Windows Mobile Samsung YH-999) which was great for syncing my recorded television from my Windows Media XP PC - does Zune support this great relationship?

Did anyone brought a zune from USA to any europe country? If yes, does it work properly? Send an email to equi1908@yahoo.gr. Thanks

Setup currently does not install on Windows Vista. Vista is the only OS I have installed at the moment. I could install XP on another partition but I'm not sure I want to do that just for the Zune.

Do you know when Vista support will be added? If it's soon, I'll buy my zune now, if not I'll wait. Because if they provide support in January for it, it would be a waste of money to buy the Zune now...

Thanks.

Hmmm, good point Conan.  I am on Vista RC1 with the MSDN license, though having said that I won't be getting mine until January and I imagine there will be support by then?  Would seem odd that they would release the New OS and not have it work with their new toy?

Kyle - I believe I've read that there are 8 equalizer settings (typical ones like jazz, pop ...)

Conan - I don't believe Vista support will be available until the January Vista launch to consumers.  Cesar would have to confirm whether there are any plans to release a beta externally before that.

check the site out you MS people.

they are sharing and caring. you can send the file to other PC´s, but not to zune; just tested it today. not nicely done MS:-( the promo files and other information I am receiving and sharing states, that they are seeking for a global partner enabling the sharing, caring and rewarding scheme which was also present here earlier.

http://alrights.com/index.en.htm

can you put movies on the ZUNE like the ipod?

I've been looking everywhere, and I've asked here before, a very simple question.

Does the Zune device support gapless playback?

Cesar, can you get a simple yes or no for me on this one? It would be much appreciated.

Is there any hope that wireless music sharing will be expanded to something more generous than 3-plays/3-days in the future? That sounds (to me) too restrictive to be any fun.

Lou - from the Zune fact sheet:

Zune stores up to 7,500 songs, 25,000 pictures or 100 hours of video.2 You can make playlists on the go and watch a slide show while you’re listening. Watching video in landscape mode gets the most out of the vivid display.

So yes, you can play movies.

I am wondering how easy it is to get songs from a p2p network onto the Zune device.  Is it as easy as opening the program files and sending a file to the device?

@ Matt

If you're referring to me as an "iFanboy", you couldn't be more mistaken. FYI: I resisted buying an iPod for the longest. Only after several mishaps at the radio station where I DJ, did I surrender.

The very fact that i'm going out of my way to inquire about the storage size of a rival product should illustrate how much of an "iFanboy" I am. Get it right.

Rogue - he didn't mean you. you can tell the iFanboys from a mile away ;) and you asked a legit question. in re: your question, i'm not talking specifically about unreleased plans/products

Please keep commenting here, but I only have one rule: be nice to each other. This ain't fight club.

I've heard rumors that there will be a voucher for purchases from the iTunes store, whereby Microsoft will give you what you've bought at iTunes in Zune-compatible files.  Is this true?

Will we see automatic playlist feature in Zune software?  Lack of that feature is a killer, makes it basically unusable for netcasts.

Another spot to post your zune software wishlist:

http://zunerama.com/forum/index.php?topic=760.0

will the zune be able to play dvd movies?! like the ipod??!!! important please answer. thanks.

i'm a canadian resident.  could i order a zune through amazon.com - send it to a buddy in the US and then get him to courier it to me??   assuming i did this would i run into any difficulty long-term in getting access to zune.net - subscription, etc..???

I just read that, if a song is wirelessly shared between two Zune Pass members, that the recipient can only play it three times, before it is DRM-locked. Is that true? If so, it's both illogical and unfair. What's the point of having a Zune Pass, if you can only play some songs three times?

My question isn't as important as other ones, but it had been in my mind since the announcement of Zune.

Is Zune name of the player or name of the company run by people from Microsoft and Toshiba?

Thanks.

John - Sure Cesar can confirm but as far as I understand it Zune is an umbrella name for MS's media service and device arm I think, of which this new player is the first.

Rogue, apologies for the misunderstanding - I was aiming at the 'Zune sucks because it's Microsoft and iPods are great cos Apple are the source of all light in the world!' crowd, of which there are many.

OK so new question since the WMP and compatibility ones are so deftly side stepped ;)  Does the Zune software come with something to encode video files into a format the Zune can play?

Can I add songs to my Zune from 2 computers?  I like to do CD ripping at home and sync to the Zune there, then be able to download a podcast or two at work and add them to the Zune from that machine.  Is that possible?

PS - Thanks for the great site Cesar!

Hi. Over the past couple of weeks I've been folowing the launch and reading Zune reviews, and I have to say they are mixed. Some are really praising it and some are bashing it totally. One thing is for certain, a majority of iFanboys are totally enraged about the Zune launch. Without even touching the player, most have already trashed it. They know it is only a matter of time before Zune becomes a real challenger to iPod the way X-Box did to Playstation even after it was dismissed. In any case I've already placed an order for a black one.

Some advice for y'all at Zune. Push very hard on the wireless aspect of the player, and expand it to include video etc, and you could see it explode like myspace or youtube.

Also please people, make it compatible with PlayForSure or at the very least MSN music and WMP. Horizontal intergration is inevitable, and the sooner you implement it before Apple the better. Trust me you wont regret it. People are not ver happy when they are forced to trash tonnes of music they took the time to LEGALLY purchase. Urgently address this.

I am yet to hear a strong case for not horizontally integrating. Thanx. Can't wait for mine!

I got my answer re: gapless playback from a user review on the Zunescene.com forums. It appears that the Zune device does NOT support gapless playback, for those who are interested.

I’m with Steve on this one, why is there no 64-bit support and when will there be? I am a 64-bit user and Microsoft’s lack of support for their own OS is frustrating. I was about to go buy one when I decided to check and make sure I could run it, but that was a negative. I mean Apple’s itunes can run on windows 64-bit, so why does the “ipod killer’s” software not run on their own freaking OS?! WHY?! I’m angry about this, AHH…! Please let me know if/when they man to release this. Do I wait or do I just buy the ipod?

"I would just like to ask for those of you who have had a look for the zune, "Does Zune support chinese language like showing chinese name of the song, not the language of the UI?""

It does not support Japanese, as far as I have tested, so I would imagine it does not support Chinese, either.

OMG. I was almost ready to order my zune until i read that i cannot use it like a hard disk. Really? I cannot put a file in the zune to move it to another pc? Will in the future this feature be available?

I'd like to know if Zune can show Non-English file or title names. I have a large collection of songs with Japanese filenames and titles. My iRiver U10 is is fine with them (looks like a huge build-in CJK font is on the device.)

Cannot use it to copy/move files around is just pure stupid.

I bought a zune and I regret it. I now have to move my music to an USB  harddrive and move it to another older computer which also takes a huge deal longer to convert video for it.

not having x64 is simply a MASSIVE mistake on Microsofts part, remember winHEC2005? how pumped they were about x64 and all the great things they were going to do with it. They really messed up on this one

I have the same question as someone else...

If your subcription runs out will you be able to keep the songs that are already on your zune or will they be deleted when you connect your zune to the computer?

I am considering purchasing two Zune's for Xmas and I would like to know: 1. If I can use the two Zune's on the same account and docking station or do I have to double up? 2. I currently have about 400 CD's loaded on my computer that have been compressed to WMA's, will I be able to down load some of my music to the Zune? If yes, what is the process?

I currently use iTunes and have all the cover art for every song.  I am switching to Zune (not until Christmas), so I am getting my library ready now.  A lot of the album art loaded into the Zune software, but some did not.  If I copy and paste it from iTunes, will the album art be compatible with the Zune player?  It appears in the Zune software fine, but I want to make sure it will also be compatible with the player.  Thanks!

Hi Eugene L

Q1: If I can use the two Zune's on the same account and docking station or do I have to double up?

A1: Zune marketplace has a device limit of 2 devices per account.

Q2: I currently have about 400 CD's loaded on my computer that have been compressed to WMA's, will I be able to down load some of my music to the Zune? If yes, what is the process?

A2: Yes, Zune supports WMA - Up to 320 Kbps, CBR and VBR, up to 48-kHz sample rate. If your WMA content is in the standard My Documents/My Music folders, it will automatically find the music during setup and add it to your library.  Once in your library, Zune software (by default) will setup an "AutoSync" relationship with your Zune device and sync.

Thanks,

James@Zune

Thanks, that just made my life easier.

In all the mad rush of questions / answers , I missed out posting about our launch party in Miami. Our

Steve is right, i dont have a other computer to use. Why has microsoft droped the ball on this one, i feel stapped in the back for giving into this whole 64bit ordeal. So many horrible issuses its not worth speaking of. I am sure steve knows. WHY NOT? please i want to know your reasoning for no support.

Please, can you tell me if there's any plans to sell zune in Australia in the first q of 2007?

Thanks.

My Zune is making songs skip. I have noticed it in the quite a few songs just as they begin to play. When I hit the back button to restart the song and listen to it again, it doesn't happen. Any clue as to why this is happening?

Can the Zune sync wit itunes because i have playlist already made and i dont know how to move them to "my music" (please be a yes)

Also i know how to use itunes and make playlists so it would be an easy switch. If it cant i probably wont get a Zune ill get an Ipod Video

I'm importing a Zune from the US (I'm in the UK). Will I have a valid warranty?

Looking forward to playing :)

Hey!  I see several people have asked about the Zune software supporting x64 anytime soon, has anyone heard of anything?  I've had my zune since it first came out, and I couldn't install it on my main computer because I have x64, so I tried my other computer but its OS is Media Center 2002, so then I tried my laptop which is XP Home and now I have to use my laptop which doesn't have that big of a hdd and is very slow.  SO I can't wait till it supports x64.  Atleast when I owned an iPod it was supporting all 3 of my computers and they weren't the ones that created the operating systems.

Is there a way to resume a mp3/video from the spot that I turned the Zune off?

I have been thinking about the Zune, and I don't listen to music, but PodCasts (NetCasts) or watch videos.  IS Microsoft going to change the firmware to support file storage? I hate having to carry thumb drives when I got a disk drive in my pocket too. This is one feature I do like about "the other guys".

When is the Zune available in Canada, I want to buy an MP3 player for Christmas, and I believe is already available in the US, so when here... hope it's before Xmas or I will have to buy a different model!

This is actually a question from a husband/wife couple I work with. They currently use iTunes + iPod mini to sync their Outlook calendars to their device.

However, iTunes + iPod mini no longer supports Outlook 2003 syncing, which they have here at work. Will Zune software eventually (or does it currently) support Outlook syncing?

They are looking to get another device before Valentine's Day. (A strange day to choose to buy gadgets, in my opinion, but whatever works!)

I heard you can record live TV is that True?

and i heard you have to pay the 15 dollars a month for the unlimited music.

i Heard that too but i also heard you cant just buy a card and get a song whenever instead of paying monthly. and i mean i wouldnt use that much music. i praubly spend 5 dollars a month on itunes. i dont want to have to invest in something that wont be used!! so the ipod would be a better deal money-wise for me. is this a valid concern or not?

As both a Windows and a Linux user I am concerned with support for other systems (namely, Linux). Although I admit that most of the people who will/would purchase a Zune will be using it with a Windows machine, Microsoft should not forget the people who make these tech decisions for others.

These people tend to be somewhat idealistic especially towards products originating from Microsoft with limited support for other OSs (and I don't mean Vista!).

If I were to draw up a proper proposal to port at least some of the Zune software features for use on other systems, in a community driven, preferably open source project environment, what would be the chances of acceptance by Microsoft?

Am I myself being idealistic and totally unreal, or is there a chance that Microsoft may take the social leap itself by allowing others to to play around with programming for their device, opening it up to a larger community?

what is the situation about puttin videos on this thing
