So there you have it.

A little bit ago, I got to interview Bitter:Sweet, one of the pre-loaded bands in Zune. I'll post that interview later today.

*edit 9/29, 1:52 PM PDT: fixed the mixup, calling the "FM Transmitter" accessory by it's correct name. the FM Transmitter with Autoseek accessory plays the music in your car's stereo, and the FM Tuner (built in) allows you listen to FM right away.

Very thorough post. Great info -- thanks! (I was hoping the rumors of the price being $20 less were true, of course -- hey, $20 is $20!). Wow, am I the first comment? Sweet! Advantage of being on the East coast, I guess...

andre

i am grateful that you have release the pricing information! now its my decision time an iPod for $249 or Zune for $249...decisions...decisions....

Ashley Allen

$14.99 for all you can eat? Bargin. I hope it doesn't change too much when Zune comes here to the UK. I just wonder how long it'll be...

gljvd

How about Live anywhere ? Will this device support it?

devon

Any idea when we'll be able to start pre-ordering?

June

249 - a bit disappointing. expecting it to be 229. Not sure , anyone cares about pre loaded content much . what about battery life ? - with audio , video and WiFi turned on/off individually.

iPod

Are there any chances that Apple can come up with WiFi and Sharing ..social aspect ?

gljvd

well yea. Its just wifi . I'm sure they will come up with something like this also. Most likely in thier next ipod . But who knows when the next ipod is . I'm upset with the 249$ price range for the 30 gig . Was hoping it come in under that range after all I have a 20 gig 3rd gen ipod and I'm already used to using ipods. Why would I buy this instead of the same priced 30 gig ipod ? Hopefully this has live anywhere (I have yet to hear anything on this ) having x360 and soon vista , a single login across the format will be nice

Vaibhav Kamath

Are we going to see a public beta of the Zune Marketplace? When would we hear more about the Marketplace?

Rohit

Finally...Hey can anyone tell me what it will contain out of the box. What cables and all. That would be a great help. I am getting one for sure. Also is it possible to transfer pictures from Camera directly. That would be a GREAT help.

Richard

Can you inform us as to what's in the box? Will there be some way to sync out of the box without having to buy the cables separately?

Darryl

Lets see some photos of all this stuff!

edddy

what is the zune official site? zune.com? "pagina nueva 2" en español parece sospechoso.

edddy

another thing: I don't want a fancy design, but..could you put a line beetween comments? It's so hard to read

Zune

Cesar, We posted the list of pre-loaded music with a link to Myspace (www.cliczune.com)for each band. The music is awesome! You can add the link to your post if you like it!

forepac

Let me add my voice to the chorus here: can we get any info on what accessories (i.e., cables, earphones, etc.) are going to be packaged with the Zune?

John

When will the Zune MarketPlace have tv shows and movies? I really don't want to commit a player until I have a simple way to get legal tv shows and movies. Yeah, I know I can find stuff but I sleep better if it is legal.

shravan

I'm a little upset with the $250 price tag too, but, I guess it's okay considering that MS is losing money on it already. It's a tough choice now - Vide iPod vs. Zune.

Zunatic

I'm with Richard... how could so many comment without asking for pics!?! =) Question on the remote: IR? =(

Zune MAX

I was hoping the release date would be sooner then Nov 14th but I'm glad we now know when we can buy one. When will the Zune MarketPlace be opening up?

kp

-$229 speculation made $249 a let down. Any chance of dropping the 20+ preloads and dropping the price to that point? -ZMP still very light on details. $14.99 also more than the $11.99/mo for YMU to go (or $9.99 if you pay annually) -P4S anywhere in the future for this thing? I really want to see this thing succeed since I really have no plans to purchase an iPod (at least not the ones currently out there). Guess this will put me in a holding/wait-and-see pattern to see what the early adopters have to say or what rev 2 might provide...

Sean

Well that does kinda stink about the price. But like the guy said "We won't be UNDER SOLD by ipod." NOT zune will be Less then ipod. So we can pre-order it on amozon.com thats sweet i hope i can get one for my B-day 10-18 but i could totaly wait. Just a thought will one of the pre-loaded pics be like a red bear i so it on a zune demenstration.

Travis

Cesar- will there be any Media Center integration with the Zune Marketplace? The primary place I listen to music is in my living room on my MCE box. Just curious :)

John

It seems like almost anyone that buys this Zune is going to have to delete the "preloaded" content. What's the purpose of the preloaded content? Is it just so that when you spend the $250, you can use it out of the box immediately?

sdsdv10

"Today we're issuing a press release about Zune's launch date and price: November 14 in the U.S.; $249.99" Actually, you are unsold by the iPod. Granted it is only 99 cents, but the MSRP on the 30GB is exactly $249 and the Zune is $249.99 As noted by a previous comment, drop the loaded content and drop the price. Otherwise, all I can say is... "MS, good luck with that."

carey

Well I am excited about the Zune but..please drop the preloaded content I mean 30 seconds to mars? honsetly:) Im just kidding but what comes in the box what do the accesiors look like? Whats the battery life? Could this really replace my Creative Zen Vision M? these are the questions I have before I decide to get rid of my Zen Vision M

David

I would love to buy it, but without Audible support, it cannot happen.

Charlie

Hey Cesar...I have to say that I am very disapointed in the pricing of the Subscription service...I have my thoughts on the subject available here. http://zunelicious.blogspot.com/2006/09/okay-everyone-big-news-day-today-for.html For those of you who don't want to look at the blog here's the conclusion of the post... This news leaves a bad taste in my mouth...while the Zune device's pricing is understandable and most likely 50 dollars less then they originally planned to offer it for, the price of the Zune Marketplace subscription is way too high and needs to come down. I say this because I have always thought that the Zune had an advantage over the iPod in that it would have a subscription based system, but priced like that, iPod users might not see the benefits outweighing the $179.88 yearly pricetag the service will cost. I mean honestly...Microsoft has talked about how the average iTune user only has about 25 purchased songs...how do they expect the users to spend 7 x more on their music? Thanx, -Charlie

Woody56292

1. Great nov.14!! that is 4 days before my birthday. =) 2. $250 was expected, not good, not bad. 3. Subscription for $15 a month? I was sure MS would disrupt the system and charge $10 a month. That would of been so great. Now I am not sure if I want a Zunepass. ( $10 would of been a system seller for alot of people ) I mean, you did Xbox live for $50, so I thought for sure you would make subscriptions available on the cheap. 4. Zune accessory packs sound nice, I think I am going to get the home a/v one. ( probably the travel one though, since I travel so much. Pictures would be nice, especially of the "Zune Gear Bag". Can't wait for some more videos showcasing its menus, etc.

larry

From walmart: What's Included * Ear buds * Ear bud cover * Sync cable does this mean it does not come with a charger?

larry

or case/bag

mazola

Points? This points system is sooo Microsoft. Let's see, $1.00 = 80 points with each song being 99¢ which turns out to be 79 points. So if I want to buy 12 songs I need to have how many points in my account? um, carry the one, hmm... What the hell is wrong with $1.00 = 1 credit = 1 song ? Or what about having a system that has an actual monetary balance (i.e. $3.21 left in your account) a la iTunes? Where did they come up with 99¢ = 79 points? Are big point numbers supposed to make us feel rich? Are the points meant to disassociate transactions from money? Why does MS seem to go out of it's way to avoid intuitive systems?

ddvelin

Can we assume that the Zune will support any standard headphones, and not just the "premium" headphones that come with the Zune? ~ddv

Cesar Menendez

ddv - yep, any standard headphones will work.

Nigel

I have no problem paying $249 for the zune. What I am more concerned about is the timeline- this thing will have been announced a solid three months before it is available. Take a leaf out of Apple's book and have immediate availability. I would gladly pay $299 if it was available now. I just get burnt out on being drip-fed information...

Stryker

Hey, The zune looks good, i have a question though... The subscription service, Is there any way to connect straight from the wireless connection to the server? ( Or are there any plans for this kind of software?) It would be awsome to be able to listen to any track you wanted, anywhere there was a open AP, for 15 bucks a month. I would do that... A reply would be great, Thanks

Harry

I dont have a problem with the current price tag on it. Thats also a big list of content that comes with the zune, im pleased with that. I might also get one of those car packs. My friend has something like that for his iPod and I thought it was really cool.

Tangled Spider

I've never been genuinely interested in portable media devices before but Zune has me excited so you're obviously doing a great job so far! It really looks like it has the potential to make me discover better music. If it's at all possible, a slightly more widespread release before Christmas would be lovely. I'm in the UK and the press release only mentions the US. :( I cry whenever my friends buy iPods so the sooner I have a proper alternative to suggest, the better. ;)

Woody56292

So since it uses Marketplace points, does that mean that we will be able to download songs from xbox live marketplace and transfer them to Zune. I don't know why, but I think that would be really cool.

Rod

I live in Brazil, so maybe I can give a new perspective on the price issue, even if a little one (and rather insignificant, as it may be). Around here, getting an iPod or a Zune would mean absolutely the same; both cost ridiculously high. So, the real difference you guys are crying about (20 dollars in a universe of 230-250?? Come on!) would only appear if one of those became available to us with a price tag below 200 dollars. That would REALLY make a difference around here (let me stress: around HERE). We have no iTunes store in Brazil, we probably won't have the MS store either, but anyway, people here are not used to the concept yet. The MS store would fail miserably if it came with an expensive Zune; Zune and the store should come attached together as one single idea, so Zune must be accessible. If MS can work the price thing to make a big difference from the iPod and invest massively on advertising for an occasional music store here, then you can have this market, and it's a huge one. Otherwise, believe me, both devices at their tops (the new 60Gb video iPod or the even newer Zune, whatever the hell comes inside it) are simply AA-class purchases. As you can imagine, we don't have a lot of AA-class here. People here are usually going for the very low quality and low cost 256Mb-1Gb "generic" players because of that. Even if the iPod is more than 5 years old now, it still costs about the same, so an MS "attack" should be as immediate as possible, or it will never catch as should. About acquiring one or the other, sorry for that, but I haven't made my mind yet.

Rod

(BTW, in that map you've posted a few days ago, I was probably the red dot over Minas Gerais, Brazil) :D

Eric

Since one of the accessories will be the "Zune FM Tramsmitter With AutoSeek", does that mean that there really isn't a transmitter built-in or is the main selling point of this add-on the AutoSeek feature? I don't know if I was dreaming that this was a built-in feature or not. Also I know that this isn’t the best way to get audio of out the device, but I'd still love to have the feature, especially if I don’t have to really pay $70 extra for it.

Coola

Hah @ Eric I was actually confused about the same thing! A lot of other people were wondering too. My guess is that it doesn't come built-in.

Tablet PC User

@ Coola and Eric, Go to wikipedia and see that the Zune has a built-in FM-tuner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Zune It seems that the FM car kit will generate an FM signal connecting your zune to your car stereo without the need for wires...

JohnJ

What in the world are Microsoft Points, and where do you buy them? Can't people buy individual songs directly with their credit cards?

Jesse

Please, oh please, can you tell if the Zune accessories will work with the Toshiba Gigabeat S ??

Woody56292

JohnJ: me, being an avid 360 gamer and live marketplace user, can tell you. Marketplace points are units of money used in the Live ( and now Zune ) Marketplace. 80 points = $1 so a $5 dollar item would cost 400 points. Items will be 79 points, which is alittle under 99 cents. Items can be redeemed through credit card transactions or by purchasing a Marketplace prepaid card from your local store ( such as Walmart ). Jesse, I think the Zune has a proprietory connector, so accessories won't work for it. Que triste....

GunForHire

$29.99 for an AC adaptor that should be included in the box is just plain extortion. Just because Apple et al can get away with doing it doesn't make it right. Disappointing.

Leland

Awww man! You gotta give me one! Comeon! Im not kidding :P I really want a zune :)

Woody56292

@Leland, lol don't we all. I am pretty sure over half the people here are getting a Zune and/or wouldn't mind a free one. But then how is MS supposed to make any money? =P

Chris

@mazola The point system was created to fool people.

Chris

@Woody56292 Microsoft does not care about making money with the Zune. They also lose money with the xBox. Microsoft just hate to see another company have success.

The World Famous aaron00lee

Man...so far off, but ill wait...GO ZUNE!!

Woody56292

@Chris, yeah but they can make up hardware sales by sofware sales and licensing fees. It is common practice to lose money on a console. Howeverin MP3 players they don't have that luxury.
