30 Seconds to Mars: Preloaded on Zune

Thanks to everyone who wished me a good vacation. I'm back now and have a little bit of Zune news for you. A while ago, I posted about Zune having some content pre-loaded on it. But at that time, I wasn't able to confirm any of the content. My buddy Richard yesterday wrote that we'll have content from CSS and Hot Chip. Sweet. And yes, that's both audio and video.

I just got the green light to post about some more pre-loaded content: 30 Seconds to Mars. From our friends at Virgin Records, 30 Seconds to Mars' video "The Kill" is nominated for an Best Rock Video at this year's MTV VMAs (go vote for 'em!)

Not familiar w/ 30 Seconds to Mars? Check the video.

Sweet.

Ok, more as I have it.

awesome. so Zune will be a video player? ( just double checking, cause if it isn't I am getting a zen vision m or ipod video. ) any word on when we will get more information on sharing music with friends? I would really like to bookmark songs my friends show me, so I can download them later. also when will we be getting word on price or release date? p.s. first post!!

Yes, as the first poster asks, i'd also like to confirm if it is a video player or not. i've been hearing alot of rumors that its not and if its not, the so called "ipod killer" won't take a bite out of apple.

Good news on the video. That makes me a happy panda. :) I doubt you can say, but any word how it will be connected to the music library? Please do NOT say WMP. :)

yep, plays video. I'll be allowed to post more info (interface, wifi capacities) in the next few weeks.

Nice! PS: please make sure this thing will play MP3 gapless!

Zune really sounds like an in-house device running Portable Media Center 3.0. I'm a big fan of PMC, and am still very happy with my YH-999 even though it has some first generation issues, such as problems with some videos and slow audio tracks changing. Even though I couldn't get one yet (not on sale in here), the PMC 2.0 (or whatever version the PMC build running on the Gigabeat S) was a big move in the right direction in my opinion, and making it the center of mobile digital entertainment. Making it possible to download pictures from a digital camera directly into your portable media player for example. If Zune is extending the same concept (running a newer build of PMC would be great), like downloading pictures through bluetooth and supporting stereo bluetooth headsets (A2DP), I would definitely get one as soon as they are available here! BTW, don't forget video output, I've been using myvu (http://www.myvu.com) with my 1st gen YH-999, and it really makes in-train and in-flight movies a great experience!

Hey will the Zune be sold at EBGAMES/GAMESTOP? I wouldn't mind trading in my PSP for one of these bad boys. anybody know?

I do hope Microsoft doesn't just generate all this hype, and then go and kill it by telling us they're only going to support their own codecs. I don't want to spend half my time encoding video and audio, just to listen/watch it for a few minutes. Keep the info coming. Great blog and nice job.

Chris

I have to agree.. i have a set of myvu and a set of ultimateears ... and if i can hook them both up to the zune then i'm sold RIGHT NOW and i'll definitly be posting some killer reviews on my sites :) Video output is soooooo important i just hope microsoft realizes it before the zune ships

Jason Cross

Well of course it plays video. I just hope that, even if the service doesn't have any video offerings at first, the service will still support video podcasts out of the gate. Codec support, as was mentioned here, is important. I honestly don't really mind if it only plays WMV, as long as the PC software app can convert video on the fly in the background (it wouldn't take long, if the file was resampled to the Zune's native screen res), and as long as we have options to somewhat control quality vs. size when it does so. The trick is, that conversion has to support all kinds of codecs, and preserve/translate metadata from the original files.

um well how else would you plan to "wirelessly" connect to the 360, without a wifi adapter. I am sure it can still connect through usb onto the 360. ( duh.... )

Iced_Eagle

Awesome song and alright video :) They should've added the axe to the bathroom door part though! :P Anyways, can't wait to get Zune... Make sure you guys add a "Sleep" function ;) I love listening to music privately while I fall asleep and I don't want the device running for hours upon hours on end wasting battery. I don't mean to try to tell you guys how to do your job, but I'm just voicing my feedback. Can't wait for more info!

What about audio books? Will Zune be able to play these? I like to listen to them during my commute in addition to music. Any insight on audio books and zune?

Neil Kulturny

I'll buy the first mp3 player that has an AM tuner can someone explain why there ain't no such thing? is this some kind of snob thing, or the gnawing fear that someone somewhere might use it to hear (gasp!) Rush Limbaugh, or what? are techies so stuck in their own little corner of the world that they don't see the millions of GROWN-UPS out there, who don't give a damn about all those MTVish jerkoffs, etc, but would like to tune into news/weather/traffic, baseball games...

Gizmodo Japan(ギズモード・ジャパン)

30 Seconds to Mars: Preloaded o...
